I don't know. There were reports of people not trusting him after a look see. As such, I question the idea of dumping millions of dollars in one guy and not checking him out properly. Not sure that is a good idea.

I can only imagine they thought coddling him would speed up any possible recovery of assets and IIRC they've managed to dig up about $1 billion. Not exactly $50 billion.

60 Minutes had a good piece with the guy who tried to blow the whistle on him years ago. They had some footage of one couple who'd lost most of their 8 figure family fortune to the guy. Makes you wonder how someone savvy enough to accumulate that kind of money would have been so foolish as to have most all of it with one guy. They were selling their two houses. The woman said something like, "We lost everything and he's up in his penthouse, smirking."
