Classic dump truck story

A friend owns a fairly large excavating company and has among other things, quite a few dump trucks. Whenever he mentions dump truck drivers he sortof shakes his head and looks sad. Here is a story that he tells:

He had a dump truck driver once who forgot to put the bed down after dumping a big load. He headed back to the shop, a distance of some miles.

As he drove along with the bed up he began to collect wires. The wires pulled off the poles and began dragging along behind the truck. As he collected more wires, the truck began to slow. As it slowed he would simply down shift to the next gear.

(Think about that).

He finally realized that something out of the ordinary was happening when the front wheels of the truck started lifing off the ground!

True story.

I drove my car into the garage before with my bike on the roof. Not as much damage as collecting wire though.

My brother did that once, just damaged the seat, and bent one of the rack bars. Bikes are very tough

Guy with a flatbed forgot to secure the car on the back in both directions, came to a red light and got pushed kind of close to the steering wheel. Luckily no one was harmed, but there is now a 3/8" plate behind the cab

He's lucky he wasn't electrocuted or that he didn't electrocute someone standing near the truck. I know of cases where that happened.

There was a heavy equipment operator who touched some powerlines in Sarasota back in the 80's...he freaked and jumped out of the cab (unhurt, because he broke contact with the equipment before he hit the ground). After a few moments of calming down, he decided to get back into the cab again - he never did make it.
