Driving home a car just bought

How would I go about driving home a car I bought like 2 days ago? Its been snowing bad in my area and plan on picking it up this week.

I usually like to put the key in the ignition, start it, put the transmission into gear and then depress the accelerator...but that is just me.

In all seriousness, it is hard to figure out exactly what you are asking. We need more info.

Let me rephrase- the car runs fine but I have a question about the insurance. DO I need insurance to drive it to where I am gonna work on it?

That's better.

Legally you need insurance on a vehicle if you are driving it on the road. States vary. Some you can get temporary insurance if you are only driving it to your garage and parking it. I drove my 126 home without insurance on it. Probably not the smartest decision, but I had legal plates on it. If I would have gotten in an accident or pulled over I would have been screwed.

Like Graplr said, rules vary by state. In some you are automatically covered retroactively and others are not. I always call the insurance company with some basic information - VIN and date you want to go into effect. It's easy and you're covered.

When I drove my wagon home after the purchase, I was able to use a temporary insurance card and the bill of sale. I just called my insurance agent and he faxed me the card and told me the details.

EDIT: I did need the VIN when I called him.

Yes, you need liability insurance. Don't drive car without it.

My insurance co covers a new car I buy for 30 days automatically. So check with your ins co (if you have one...).

got AAA?

call them and tell you the car broke down, slap a tag with valid registration on it and if the tow truck driver isn't a total jack azz have it towed to where its gotta go. Only works if you have AAA with up to 100 miles of free towing.

You say it's been snowing, so how are the tires? I saw 6 cars in the ditch today within about 5 miles of each other.

You're a tech right? If you have access to a dealer tag you can use that and your shops insurance will cover the vehicle as long as the tag is on it. Thats what I usually do.

That works well, sometimes you have to grease the driver a bit though.
