Any washer repairmen here....??

My washer went into its cycle but stops just before the spin. No matter where you put the dial it will not pump out the water or spin. I can turn the dial and get it to agitate but it will stop again when it comes time to spin and pump out the water. My guess is either the pump is bad or the timer.

I've gone to the repairclinic website and it is telling me timer. Any suggestions?

You gotta pay to post, but you can search for free, and read the articles for free. I learned how to replace some valve on my dishwasher from this place.

I've had the same problem, over the years, with ALL MY WASHERS...it's the timer...every f'en wire goes through that dang thing...get a new one and all will be right with the world...

I don't know the make or age of your washer, but I'll try (have not been in that business for some 20 years) .

The older Sears Kenmore and Whirlpool washers have a pair of solenoids that control the gear box(non reversible motor) (one range for spin and the other for agitate), check for broken wires or a bad solenoid as the solenoid arrangement is subject to quite a bit of movement. You may also want to check the pump, if it is locked up due to an ingested sock, it could be tripping the thermal protection switch on the motor (you would probably be smelling rubber though) On other makes, GE, Speed Queen, Maytag, etc, they use a reversible motor, again check the leads going to the motor as well as the "motor switch" .

If you are really lucky, it could be something as simple as a "lid switch" or the associated wiring preventing the spin cycle from occurring. On most models you can pop the lid by inserting a putty knife into the recesses about 2-4 inches inboard from either front corner, then lift the lid.

Please unplug the machine before trying any of the before mentioned steps.

It turns out that I am lucky. When I was playing with it earlier I was sticking a screwdriver in the lid switch and thought I heard a click so I didn't think more of it. On top of that the washer would not work with the lid down. When I looked closer, the switch was physically broken off one of its tabs. When I pushed it a little further I was able to get the washer to spin.

Now to get it apart and get the switch out to get a new one.

Thanks guys!

Since that switch is a safety measure I'm sure no one would suggest just jumping the wire in the meantime while you wait for a switch.

Sounds like the first Frigidaire front loader we had, something to do with the circuit board. The replacement we got works fine.

Mine has had that same temporary jumper wire for three years. Man it is taking forever for that switch to get ordered

Timer, would be my guess from what you described.

But reading further, you identified the deadman's lid switch. They're a little tricky to install, I've needed one replacement on my washer in 20 years of operation, but they're not much money. Putting them in is a bit tricky, but anyone who wrenches on their MB can do it. Good luck.

I have a funny appliance story.

When the wife and I got married we were very poor. She wanted a clothes dryer, so I bought one at the Good Will. When I plugged it in it didn't work, but when I opened the door and pushed the button it would work. So me being "Mr. Fixit" I popped the front off and switched the contact wires of the door switch without unplugging the dryer and after my wife pulled me out of the wall the dryer worked fine. And to this day I think that the electrical shock from the dryer shorted out a few wires in my brain. I think I suffered Dain Bramage.

Yeah, but look on the bright side, you don't have to worry about lint in the brain, just clean it out of your ears with a car key every fortnight.

I'll do that, but I will have to use the truck key because the clk 320 key won't fit in my ear.
