damn you time warner cable

My sister just told me to turn VH1 on and there is a message scrolling on the bottom of the screen that says Time Warner Cable will be removing the following channels from their system

nickelodeon
VH1
Comedy Central
TV Land
and some other channel.

this is 100% unexpected. I cant live without my colbert report or daily show. I like TV land with its classic tv shows. I also enjoy watching some of the cartoons on nickelodeon(but I do miss the stuff I grew up with in the early 90's)

whyyyyy!!!!!!!

Well, if they yank it BEFORE 30 DAYS, they be in a big heap o'trouble...the FCC mandates that cable companies have to give 30 days notice before removing/adding anything to their lineups.

Keep an eye on the calendar...then take them out at the knees!!!

Then, dump 'em and either go OTA or STV (Over-The-Air / Satellite TV).

Dish or DTV is much better than analog cable and should be on par with digital cable. Especially if you use the S-video cable to connect to the TV - there's a noticible difference in picture quality.

I've had Dish for close to 10 years now and I've always been satisfied with the quality. Basic service is pretty cheap too, something like $34. There's a lot of factors effecting local cable, especially the engineer is who sets up all the downlinks and associated equipment. I've seen local cable feeds with huge variances in picture and sound quality between channels. This is less of an issue now though, as things go digital.

Do some research on "Free TO Air" or FTA. You'll never pay another cable bill.

We are seeing the message on Nick, and we are not on an affected system.

However, they're tipping a bit of their hand with the messages. They are telling me that to keep Nick and CC, I must also accept MTV and VH1 (which cost far more than the rest). Also Spike, which I so rarely have any interest in that it might as well be gone.

Just as soon as I get the FIRST, REAL, ala-carte channel selection, I will sign up immediately. I will agree to a contract of a year or more. I will pay more if I keep all my current channels, but rest assured that I will not. The current business model is anti-consumer.

Yup! My wife and I have FIOS and we're happy with it. The price was comparable to the evil (I mean EVIL Comcast) and the picture quality and internet speed are much better. BTW, when we moved to our new house over the summer we even elected to pay $150 to Comcast to get out of our contract. Well worth it.

'Course it may not be available in your area yet..... but eventually it will.

No problem.I doubt they are leaving the field. You'll have to upgrade to a higher level premium subscription. IOW: BOHICA.

Comcast here has been chipping away at the popular cable channels on analog cable for the last few years. I went digital. Problem solved. It's only money.
