The Year in Review--Media Objectiveness

http://www.mrcaction.org/r.asp?U=14933&RID=16318028

Some really great quotes from "objective" newspersons.
Chris Matthews is such an ass.
He is certainly entitled to his opinions, and if he ejoys that good feeling running up his leg when he hears Obama speak, that is OK, too.
However, his opinions are completely out of place in his supposed news reporting.

Matthews is not a reporter, he's a political insider/commentator. Like O'Reilly but with actual contacts among Democrats.

The one that gives me the creeps is Stephanopoulos. He is a very, very bright man and extraordinarily subtle. He shapes the news and interviews without being obviously biased and the loud bluster of O' or M. He's a scalpel to their chainsaws.

I haven't read your quotes, but I agree with you about Chris Matthews. They say he plans to run for Senate. Pardon my French, but wtf is that all about?

Come on MS. You really don't consider these shows 'news reporting" do you?
All these shows take events from news and spin to the left or spin to the right and half heartedly counterbalance their thrust with some opposing views a lot of the time.
I don't for a moment consider Matthews, Madow, Olberman, O'Rielly, Hannity&Colmes, AC 360, Greta, or Campbell Brown to be straight up news shows. Some are less opinionated than others, but they are all video OP-ED pieces IMO. (After all, few read real newspapers any more, no?)

I don't think that Matthews considered that particular weird comment to be news reporting. It was intended to be commentary, i.e. opinion.

On the other hand, many of these talking heads make their living by pretending to be objective and above the fray. CNN has a show called "No Bias, No Bull" or something stupid like that. It might be a great show. I refuse to watch it. The title is just too ridiculous. Likewise with Mattews' so-called "Hard Ball." If he likes what the guest is saying, he won't challenge it at all. The rest of the show consists of him interrupting people.

I agree.

And the "No Bias, No Bull" show is Campbell Brown's. She's not too opinionated and verrry easy on the eyes...

No discussion of "media" is complete without mention of popular news sources R. Limbaugh, P. Robertson . . .

As a communist, pinko, fag (Democrat) and have been involved in politics for years. How come when I watch Fox news the opposing view is someone I have never heard of or a light weight who could not argue that the sun comes up in the morning? CNN is no better on the other side.

When Matthews takes pains to call himself a "journalist" I pay attention.
If he was just the counterpart to Limbaugh, or Hannity, I would not care. At least Liumbaugh and Hannity, as well as most talking heads on the right, openly admit that they are not journalists.

Ah, but JOURNALISTS used to be trained to recognize and then attempt to not show their bias.

The rise of "advocacy journalism" has ruined a once-dignified profession, to the point where most of it can easily be called "propaganda".
