Australian Diesel Road Trains

For guys whining about not enough diesel power in their old MBs?

These pull 3 fully loaded cattle trailers with an old Mack truck - no adjustments- no chips-no mods - nothing. Same gearing as in the States.
Here's some pics http://outbacktowing.tripod.com/

It is legal in Oklahoma to pull three smaller trailers or two 53 footers. You don't see it much as the weight limits still apply, but if you are hauling light stuff, like bread, it makes sense.

They don't have the hill's or mountains for that matter, that the US has, so they can do it with relative ease. Let's see them try that going across the Rockies...

Good point on the flat country. Anyone who has driven I-70 from Denver to Glenwood Springs can understand how much power would be needed to haul three trailers over the Rockies.

Most of Oklahoma is flat as well with only a few rolling hills, so it works here.

Not to mention the costs in underwear to drive three trailers down from Vail Pass.

In the middle of no where you can do that!

Stopping distances would be very, very long. Also turning would be an adventure.

Stopping should be no problem as each trailer has its own brakes. Turning should be no problem as the trailers should each follow the one in front, but with those long trailers you would need a lot of room on the inside.

Backing would be pretty dicey.

I'd seen those before, but that was a cool link. That's amazing how huge those road trains are.

Thats why they have that huge battering ram/grille on the front of the truck. They don't plan on stopping!

Also, if each trailer is equipped with its own air brakes, it can probably stop almost as well as a normal truck setup....
