Brown marmorated stink bug

I live in southeastern Pennsylvania and these guys have been showing up from time to time this winter in the house. Its been about one per week and it appears they are getting in through the upstairs bathroom exhaust vent. If they are squashed they really stink so we pick them up with a tissue and flush them. Has anybody else had to deal with these critters.

YES!! They were living in my chimney until I started heating with wood fires this winter.

We had about 5 of them in our house at all times during spring and summer. I ended up canceling my service with Ehrlich because they weren't able to get rid of them. I still see about one every couple of weeks even now.

I also grab them with a tissue and flush them. If you grab them too roughly they stink up your hand too. It smells like really strong fresh cut grass to me.

We get the brownish lady bug looking critters.

I did have clumps of what looked to be red versions of your brown stinkbug (but not certain) on the outside of our garage in early fall.

I didn't know of these things til I moved to West PA...The first year was bad, last year wasn't too bad, but this fall is pure hell.

There's nothing I know of on the market to control them. They're coming in all over the place in the bathroom...we're sweeping up about 15 or so carcasses of them each day.

They have migrated to Western Ohio, so I'm sure Indiana will be overrun by them soon.

They gross my wife out...LOL

Today we counted about 40 carcasses in the bathroom, and at least that many alive in my son's room. I fear that tomorrow will be worse...

I moved to using a shopvac with a pantyhose leg on the inside of the hose to catch them without killing them...the smell when they die is horrid. I dump as many of the little bastards as I can in the toilet and flush it down.

I saw this on one of the critter reality shows. You have my sympathy. Round here we have tiny Argentine ants that are hard to control but they sound mellow compared to the stink bug thing.

Today was the first bad day here in HoCo MD.
Probably a couple hundred on the north wall of my house around & above the garage doors. Dear wife had two of three garage doors open when i got home around 4:00. Looked to be maybe 25 on the walls inside the garage. Probably more already hunkered down out of view.

This seems a like a substantially lesser infestation than prior years. Indeed gross, but somewhat more manageable than 2011 & 2012.
I spray with Permithian (spelling?) along with a sticker additive on all exterior surfaces that tend to attract them. This is the only stuff I've found that seems to have any effect on these nasty SOB's. (Excepting a blowtorch)

Several of the cats have tried. They're smart enough to quite.

The Basinji/Border Collie mix - SMART as any critter I've ever known. She still chomps on 'em now and again.

Frankly I'd rather the zoo leave 'em alone. Stinks when they die, and it's a smell I try to avoid.
