The solution is uber-easy and surprisingly cheap, once you know the score...

The triangle is a 126-chassis unit, same as a 116-chassis, too.

The only part that needs to be purchased from MB is the actual clip at the top (barely visible in the picture), but you can't get it from your local dealer, as it's a Euro-only part #.

You can get it from Tom Hanson at the Mercedes Benz Classic Center in Irvine, CA. His e-mail is thomas-dot-hanson-at-mbusa-dot-com (replace '-dot-' with . and '-at-' with @).

How much? Try a whopping $4.80 with your MBUSA club membership 15% discount!!! + shipping, of course. About $11.00 to my door, if I remember correctly.

Next step, that I took was to procure the proper trunk lid liner. I thought I needed that part because there's a definite difference between the US-delivered part and the Euro-delivered part #. That did cost some serious $ - about $160 delivered.

HOWEVER - upon close examination, I didn't even need that item. The shape of the two liners is EXACTLY the same - the only difference is 3 properly placed holes to expose the pockets in the lid framework for the feet at the bottom, and a hole in the liner at the top to expose the holes that the latch keys and snaps into.

Anyone that wants to attempt this mod - I can provide measurements to get you "in the neighborhood" for the first cuts. From there, you can easily figure out how large each of the holes needs to be.

I would strongly suggest you make the cuts with the lid installed, as removing it is a real PITA and frequently results in busted clips on the lid itself, which cannot be repaired or replaced.

So - I think I gave $45+ shipping for the triangle, plus $11 for the latch - and now I'M A MEMBER OF THE TRUNK TRIANGLE CLUB!!!

Woo hoo!

Next posting - how in installed Euro-spec adjustable aim headlamps...

Regards

I guess interest in stuff like this ebbs and flows like the availability of triangles on eBay. Sometimes I see half-a-dozen up for auction, and then, for ages, nothing...
