Being able to put that plane down with the circumstances is truely an amazing feat.
In 1978 a Boeing 727 "ditched" in Escambia Bay at night while on approach to the Pensacola Regional Airport. All 58 persons on board survived the "touchdown" with only a few serious injuries. (Three passengers drowned after exiting the aircraft.)

The interesting aspect is that the ditching was completely unplanned and unintentional. The flight crew inadvertantly flew into the water. Nonetheless, the passenger section of the fuselage remained intact and no one died in the airplane.

Apparently, quite easy to do at night if instruments are not utilized..........

The pilots were "distracted" by an alarm from the Ground Proximity Warning System!!!

While not high on my list of frivolus lawsuits, these would be on it.
Seems act's of god are not immune to big money.

Those POS should be thankful that the pilots got control of the plane and saved their asses. If I were A/A, I'd appeal and delay for the next 20 years..........hopefully, they are old as dirt when they get the money.

Many years ago I worked for a company out of Baltimore, and being that BWI is a major airport for US Air, I rode them probably once every two weeks. It seems every one of their pilots is a carrier jock because they drive the plane to the ground, and the passengers know they've landed. Loud bangs, shudders, even a compartment or two opening up. I often wondered if US Air had accelerated gear maintenance because of the jocks.

I had a funny thought when I heard one of the passengers on the news saying it was a relatively smooth landing. I thought, hmm, one of the smoothest landings ever.

Not taking anything from the pilots heroics but I think that you would only stand up once.

I was thinking of a series of slender fingers that would come out in a pattern like a curved dunce cap to provide goose diversion and would retract to a straight position when at an altitude above the flying bird danger.

Not sure if it's true or not and I am sure WVO or others can verify but I used to live in AZ and given the windy conditions I was told that the safest way to land was to put it down and keep it down. Less chance of catching a gust and being tossed around. Made sense to me at the time.

Also, I was on a SW flt to AZ one time and the pilot stuck it down pretty hard. The Flight attendant came on the intercom and said something to the effect of "You know folks, landings like that are not the pilots fault, it's not the planes fault, it is the asphalt." I thought it was pretty funny

Airbus in the Hudson

Here's a few pics' I took this afternoon. I was across the river, in Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ. I still can't believe that the plane's in one piece, and that everyone got out alive.
