US Airways jet ditches into the Hudson River
Nobody killed (unless birds count), everyone got out of the plane safely, and it appears that the plane is in one piece. They can wring that sucker out and fly it tommorow, j/k. ;)

Yikes,
My late friend's wife is a flt attendant for USAir... I'll have to call her.. Glad everyone got out. Cold day for it. |
Hooray for the pilot, I'll have a beer in his honor.
|
I want to see them get this thing up and out of the city.
|
Luckily, the waters aren't shark infested . . . in NYC, they're mostly onshore!

Who do you think you’re kidding here? It’s after 5 in NYC. It’ll be tomorrow after lunch before they lift it out of there. And, with this being a holiday weekend… It will be Tuesday before that thing is flying again. Get a clue. Geezz. :D Seriously - Awesome job in the cockpit. Raise a glass to those two for sure. Hats off to the cabin crew and PAX for doing an a great job getting out of there as well. |

That's got to be a really, really bad feeling when both your engines drop offline and you only have a couple of hundred feet of altitude to work with. I'm not a pilot but I'm guessing you have to make a decision very quickly, you don't have a lot of choices, and you better make the right decision cause you ain't going to get a second chance. Seems like the pilot did a great job, I'll have two beers in his honor. |
Wow, what a wonderful bit of good news!
Thank you pilot & crew! |

That’s what CRM is all about. (Cockpit Resource Management) 1. You run through the already set procedures for what you think is your current condition/scenario. 2. You both spit out what you think should be your next move. (I let the right seat go first. If it sounds good, we go with it.) 3. You do it. Both crew members work as a team. Not the captain barking out orders. With such a short time between Quack, Bang and Skip - I’m betting the CVR will show CRM in action to the maximum level. |

You can't remove and fumigate those chit-stains overnight!!! :D  |
Thats one hell of a landing!
Landing in the water this time of year is usualy a death sentance, luckly rescue boats arrived quickly, and the plane stayed afloat. |

They just velcro in. And it looked like most were out (floating down the river) already. You're right though. I'd bet there were plenty of folks needing that quick dunk in the river to rinse out some shorts. |

Too far nose up, and the tail will hit and snap off. Not good. Too flat and the engines dig in and slow the aircraft too fast and slap the nose down, snapping the fuselage just in front of the wing. Not good. These guys look to have hit it just right. Hell of a good job. |
I can’t help but think that there has to be video of that.
Perhaps on a security camera. With all those people and buildings, I’d think someone got that on tape. Maybe that's why we have yet to hear from BC. He's heading to the AP to collect his retirement check. :D |
Lots of pics on Flickr and Twitter:
