wireless router downstream of wired router?
My sister has had a string of wireless routers that have to be reset every so many days. She accepts it as a nuance of wireless routers in her house. She has one PC hard wired to the wireless router. Can she put a wired router between the DSL modem and wireless router so she doesn't lose the internet on the hard wired PC when the wireless router has to be reset?
Thanks, Sixto 87 300D |

For example my old Linksys router is connected to my cable modem, an old iMac, a networked printer and my wireless router [AirPort Express]. |

She should get a good wired router. (Netgear FVS114 is an excellent little unit...cheap on ebay too)
Then attach a GOOD wireless access point to it....both Linksys and Netgear make good/stable ones. A favorite and stable access point is the Linksys WAP54G....thats all it is, is a wireless unit. It just has a single Ethernet port on the back which is then plugged into your normal router. It then "extends" the network being created by the wired router. That setup would be way more stable and wouldn't need to be reset like that.

What model router is it? It shouldn't fail repeatedly unless the unit is faulty or some external funny business is going on.
Has it been recently updated with firmware? |

I have a Linksys WRT54G V3 router, and after I flashed it with DD-WRT firmware, I haven't had to reset that router. I reset it when I flashed the newer version of DD-WRT almost a year ago, and other than being shut of with power outages, it hasn't been restarted.
