Observations of a Exotic Car Owner
It's been almost a month since I bought my Maserati and I've been neglecting my Mercedes and others since I got it. Some observations:
The Maserati is a kick in the ass to drive and is a real head turner. I drove my SL600 today and had forgotten what a great, smooth ride it is. Around the same horsepower as the Maserati, but much heavier. Man I love this car! The Ferrari is another kick to drive, but it's for weekends and car shows. Not good in the summer or DC traffic. Also drove the 560SEC. What a great, smooth ride with power when you need it. Pulled the Jaguar out and also forgot what a great, powerful, smooth car it is and a real pleasure to drive. Although somewhat moody, a real classy ride. Gotta love the 12 bangers! At the end of the day, the two that I'll keep forever are my SL600 and 300SDL. In fact, the SDL is my favorite of all the "herd". Just a great, bulletproof vehicle. Call me crazy, but there are no other cars in the world that compare to Mercedes. I also threw my back out and am heavily medicated at the moment. |
Nothing personal, but I really hate you right now.:P

Your SEC should be a hoot to drive - my father had one when I was growing up and I drove the schnikes out of that car. I can easily imagine that a good one would drive just as well today; I'd still like to get a low-mileage 1991 560SEC. I would think, though, that the Ferrari 308 (I've driven a friend's 308 back in the '80s) would be a blast to drive - the music those engines make is intoxicating.
Beyond those two, your Maser has little interest (except that it's a real cool car) for me, and Jags never did it for me. Any of them. |
I have been driving Mercedes since 1980. Even thoue my first one was a slug that couldnt get out of its own way. It was tank. It rulled the road blowing its Diesel smoke ever time I floored it to get on the highway. That car never had any issues what so ever. You are right there is no car compaired to a Mercedes. Untill one day I finally got the chance to drive a Rolls Royce. It was a 1985 Silver Spur. Ok I will admit that was the only other luxury car that I have ever drove that was nicer then a Mercedes.

He threw his back out pushing the Jag home!!! But seriously, what a way to spend a weekend! Thread hijack: I spent mine at a soccer tournament...we watched Friday's games donning short sleeved shirts, and then found ourselves huddled in blankets near a propane heater during the Saturday competitions!!! Texas weather is weird! The best part about the weekend (other than my daughter's HS soccer team winning the tournament) was that the W124 FINALLY passed emissions!!! That was six months, lots of $$$ and eight tries!!! |
You got some balls and a large checkbook to own a Ferrari, a Maserati, and a V12 Jag while coveting a Rolls/Bentley. All are brutally expensive to keep moving.
I'm with you on the Lotus - I still want an Exige. Light and fast would be fun. |
Powerpig...Nice post.
My wife too like's her 300SD(grease car)........:P I myself, like my 04 Cummins powered truck...Crazy Power...:D You should see the look on the persons face who is driving a Euro, Japanese or American sports car...and we do a roll-on, on the hwy...If their car dont run low 12's...Big Red is going to pull truck length's on them....I get lots of thumbs up..and the classic...WTF LOOK....:P |

Bentley Continental R. As old as it is its better looking and more modern then most 2009 cars. That looks like a nice buy to me.

Mercedes are great, but I agree that a Bentley or Rolls is better. I still think the Mercedes is the better engineered car, but for what they sell them for they cannot put the quality that RR and Bentley puts into there cars. |

Me too... PP, you don't want a Bentley or a Roller... You NEED a 600 Grosser! After all it was the most expensive car in the world when new, PLUS you won't have to send JohnHef to Crewe or Goodwood to learn how to work on it (after he gets back from Modena):D |
Had a 328, and one that was a bit more modern. Great machines, but ot as good of a DD as the SL600.
Tested and owned a Bentley, and an older RR, and still is not as good of a DD as the Mercedes. Dont get me wrong, they are awesome machines, but they stand out too much. I like my ability to be able to hide in a sea of cars. I love the feel of F-Cars, RR and the like, but its just not a good DD. I remember that after my dad threw his back out for the 4th time, he said never again. |
