Yet Obama's stand also came just one day after he surrounded himself with well-paid chief executives at the White House. He had pulled in those business leaders and hailed them for being on the "front lines in seeing the enormous problems in our economy right now."

The sad part is the people that screwed everything up are still collecting the bonuses and they still think they deserve it.

"It is shameful," Obama said from the Oval Office. "And part of what we're going to need is for the folks on Wall Street who are asking for help to show some restraint, and show some discipline, and show some sense of responsibility."

Show responsibility? Oh yeah, they should be like all the lovable working-class Americans, who have shown such remarkable self-restraint and responsibility over the past few years. I mean, sure, all those peons are spending 26 times more than they earn, but they deserve that right? They deserve to retire when their 50 and live in a house twice as big as they can technically afford, with two giant cars that they can't afford sitting in their driveway. Because their the working class. Not the wealthy. The wealthy don't deserve anything. They're greedy. We should take all their money and give it to the doe-eyed, innocent working class folk who of course had NOTHING to do with this recession.

Give me a freaking break. Nearly everyone in this country, from Wall Street to the assembly lines, needs to show a little better sense of responsibility. Maybe we can fix it if we all admit that.

Well they deserve it as much as working class people deserve their pensions. It's something they were told they would get, and expected to get, so why shouldn't they expect to collect it? Of course, if we want the economy to turn around, they better accept the fact that they can't ... but the same should be said for a lot of the pension plans that are killing corporations, too.

My bad

Well, I've been doing a fantastic job at my workplace, and my company is failing rapidly. So unless you have an inside track to every company on Wall Street, how do you know all these guys have been doing a crappy job? I'm sure some of them are ... heck, truth be told, most people in every industry do a crappy job. But the fact that their companies are doing lousy doesn't mean they're doing a crappy job.

I'm not at all against the thought that these companies should ax some of these bonuses ... I mean, it makes business sense to cut back on such things when losses are piling up. I'm just saying don't criticize people for wanting those bonuses or feeling angry that they aren't getting them. They aren't any more selfish than all the "working class" people we've collectively glued a ridiculous halo over. I think everybody has a right to feel a little sorry for themselves, as well as kick themselves, but we shouldn't just kick one sector of the class-spectrum while patting the other on the shoulder.

BTW, to clarify, I'm "working class" and get nothing anywhere near a bonus (if I'm lucky I get the day off on Christmas). I'm just capable of empathy.
