Worst drought in California history

Vahrnmentalist haters drive me nuts. Always bending over backwards trying to prove that Algore is a loon. Look at the facts and leave your damn spin out of it. You think I want drought? Do you think I rejoice in it in some vain hope it proves my POV correct?

Seek the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Michigan might not have sunshine, warm temps, money, or employment, but we have tons and tons of water, and its all ours! (evil laugh)

Jorn 01-30-2009 10:26 PM

That's good, then you guys can bail us out:D

AustinsCE 01-30-2009 10:42 PM

Well, the "Central valley" will do fine. That part of the article was just a lie, the rain here got back to normal? Even had some folks near the Lake Isabella say it's the worst flooding they ever had, in November.

No way, that water is all ours! :D In fact last year all the states surrounding the great lakes signed and enacted legislature banning the transfer of water to states beyond their borders.

We'll trade you produce for water. If you refuse; No produce for you!

Jorn 01-30-2009 11:05 PM

That's right and we should close the borders for those Michigoniers. :P

Sorry, but I feel as though every year I hear this same s***. We're always in a drought. California could have a huge tsunami come over it, then be dunked into the pacific and come back up and it would still be said that we are in a drought. I've never, ever living here all my life have had to ration water, and I live in the desert!!!!. I know some remote parts have had to but those are the people who live out in the boonies....

It's just like California Rolling blackouts... There's another big pile of bs...It was supposed to be a HUGE issue years to come, haven't heard of it once the past 2 years.

Do all y'all in other states hear about us on the news much? Just curious :P

-siiiigh- California -_-

Not a peep.

I wonder what the long-term average rainfall pattern is for any given state. I have looked it up for my own and it had some surprises, but most of it was what I would expect.

For people interested in drought data (in addition to just arguing about it) Google "Modified Palmer Drought Index". The site is user hostile but you'll probably figure it out.

The index is more than rainfall alone and provides a more comprehensive view of drought from an agricultural perspective.

I lived in Midland, MI as a kid; went treat-or-treating 5 years in a row wearing a coat, hat, gloves and rubber boots because it snowed before Halloween.

You can keep your water, and mosquitos too (we used to chase them with tennis rackets); I'll take brown grass in summer and 65 degree warm spells in winter.

Yes

cmac2012 01-31-2009 01:28 AM

Oh boy.

I hope it rains torrents tomorrow. But if AGW or nonAGW is indeed on the rise, the Sierra snowpack will get smaller and smaller over the years. Might be similar rainfall totals but replicating the resorvoir-like nature of the snowpack will be about impossible and very costly (in $$ and land use) to attempt a fraction of it. Not to mention making life more risky: damn bursts.

Oh yeah, I'm a lefty loon, go ahead and fill up your swimming pool, wash your cars once a week (don't turn the hose off while doing so, that's for sissies). We can double the population of this state and we'll still have plenty of water for any and everything we want it for. Plus, milk and honey, etc.

Don't tempt me further! This winter has been horrid. 95" of snow so far....and about 2 feet of it is still sitting on the ground. :o

It MIGHT get above freezing Sunday for the first time in like a month. Right now its 12F....I want it to be warm. So, after this "Warm day" Sunday, its supposed to be 15 degrees all week with snow almost EVERY DAY. Help!!!

DieselAddict 01-31-2009 03:20 AM

We too draw our water from the Sierra snowpack and I'm aware this is the third dry year in a row. Hopefully things will return to at least average in the next couple years. It's sad that people need to be reminded of such common-sense water conservation habits as those listed at the bottom of the article, especially "Washing: When showering, wet body, turn off water, apply soap, and turn on water to rinse." How do you even apply soap when the water is running? But I bet a lot of people still do that. Here's another tip: Don't shower every day.

Would you date a girl who didn't?

*I* sure wouldn't.

Yuck.

Epic FAIL.
