Worst drought in California history
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/01/30/MNC615JNHB.DTL&hw=drought&sn=001&sc=1000
Vahrnmentalist haters drive me nuts. Always bending over backwards trying to prove that Algore is a loon. Look at the facts and leave your damn spin out of it. You think I want drought? Do you think I rejoice in it in some vain hope it proves my POV correct? Seek the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Michigan might not have sunshine, warm temps, money, or employment, but we have tons and tons of water, and its all ours! (evil laugh)

Well, the "Central valley" will do fine. That part of the article was just a lie, the rain here got back to normal? Even had some folks near the Lake Isabella say it's the worst flooding they ever had, in November.

No way, that water is all ours! In fact last year all the states surrounding the great lakes signed and enacted legislature banning the transfer of water to states beyond their borders.

We'll trade you produce for water. If you refuse; No produce for you!

That's right and we should close the borders for those Michigoniers.

Sorry, but I feel as though every year I hear this same s***. We're always in a drought. California could have a huge tsunami come over it, then be dunked into the pacific and come back up and it would still be said that we are in a drought. I've never, ever living here all my life have had to ration water, and I live in the desert!!!!. I know some remote parts have had to but those are the people who live out in the boonies....
It's just like California Rolling blackouts... There's another big pile of bs...It was supposed to be a HUGE issue years to come, haven't heard of it once the past 2 years. Do all y'all in other states hear about us on the news much? Just curious -siiiigh- California -_-

Not a peep.
I wonder what the long-term average rainfall pattern is for any given state. I have looked it up for my own and it had some surprises, but most of it was what I would expect. For people interested in drought data (in addition to just arguing about it) Google "Modified Palmer Drought Index". The site is user hostile but you'll probably figure it out. The index is more than rainfall alone and provides a more comprehensive view of drought from an agricultural perspective. B |

You can keep your water, and mosquitos too (we used to chase them with tennis rackets); I'll take brown grass in summer and 65 degree warm spells in winter.

Oh boy.
I hope it rains torrents tomorrow. But if AGW or nonAGW is indeed on the rise, the Sierra snowpack will get smaller and smaller over the years. Might be similar rainfall totals but replicating the resorvoir-like nature of the snowpack will be about impossible and very costly (in $$ and land use) to attempt a fraction of it. Not to mention making life more risky: damn bursts. Oh yeah, I'm a lefty loon, go ahead and fill up your swimming pool, wash your cars once a week (don't turn the hose off while doing so, that's for sissies). We can double the population of this state and we'll still have plenty of water for any and everything we want it for. Plus, milk and honey, etc.

We too draw our water from the Sierra snowpack and I'm aware this is the third dry year in a row. Hopefully things will return to at least average in the next couple years. It's sad that people need to be reminded of such common-sense water conservation habits as those listed at the bottom of the article, especially "Washing: When showering, wet body, turn off water, apply soap, and turn on water to rinse." How do you even apply soap when the water is running? But I bet a lot of people still do that. Here's another tip: Don't shower every day.
