I wonder if I could make a hitch and trailer like that for my wagon.

Installing a hitch under the rear bumper is a PITA. Having a roof mount hitch would be a breeze.:D

That's an ideal place to mount a hitch on a Beetle. That's just about the strongest point on the car!
