Found a gun

I was going through some boxes of things my father had given me last year. I just found a small box inside a box containing a gun.

Its a Andrew Fyrberg (Hopkinton, Mass.) revolver which hold five rounds with a pearl handle. I never knew he had it and I am thinking it came to him from my grandfather. From what I found so far it may be from 1905-10 and is fairly common. It does appear to operate but it has no firing pin and I have no desire to use it.

If anybody knows more about this gun please pass it on.

Can we PLEASE MOVE PAST This stuff?

865sp300e,

It looks like your gun was made by the Meriden Firearms Co (owned by Sears after 1904) They went out of business in 1918...

If the hammer exposed or hidden?

Have fun researching the gun

Thanks, a local gun shop stated these guns are quite common with little value. I"ll hang it on the wall in my home office.

Yup, there's a whole passel of them critters. They were called "Shopkeeper Specials". Sold to small store owners for about $10 as "protection". Usually .25 caliber. I've got one which looks just like it only it was made by Forehand and Wadsworth. I call it my "varying" caliber piece. Those things were so cheaply made the bullets just slopped around the barrel on exit. The resulting projectile came out anywhere from .28 to .17 caliber. Couldn't get more than two hits on a 55 gallon drum at 20 paces.

They were made for about a 6 foot range (across the counter top). The only thing neat about them is they were "top break" style.

It does appear to be rough. The cylinder gap appears to be wide and the hammer is unfinished.

Can't tell if it has no finish and or they were sold in the "white"?

Cheney and guns, anything is fair game

Do you have to get a license or register it to be in legal possession of it?

The gun shop stated registration is not required since it has been disabled with no firing pin. I do not intend to carry it around in public, it is a family keepsake which will stay in my home office. Under those conditions it is legal to possess it without registration.

In the state of California if the gun is not listed as an assault weapon, matching both make and model on the assault weapons list you are protected by the second amendment and legally allowed to posses any weapon.

This is why it is still legal to buy an AR-15 in CA. Not an Armalite model 15, or a Colt. but you can own any of the "Off List" weapons. as long as they meet the state requirements, for example a non removable magazine.

For the revolver in question, if he was a resident of CA, it is not an assault weapon, and it is over 50 years old. he doesn't even need to have any paper work on it.

There are also list of pistols you cannot buy in California, but being 50 years old and a revolver it wouldn't be listed on any list. Those lists also only apply to buying the gun, not possessing it.

The state of California has succeeded in making guns and gun owners seem evil. but thanks to the second amendment they still haven't figured out how to disarm the population.

I hate the Government of the State of California.
