Up here they okayed any college graduate to be a substitute teacher about 2 years ago. They used to have a teaching license.

There are however many programs that allow someone with a Bachelor's to obtain a teaching license in the area they studied in college.
By less than easy I meant "easier than easy." Bad use of a colloquialism

Harder to get public papers.

Yes, we have those also. They're usually called Tech Ed schools. There's one up the street from where I work with a Hospitality Management program and a great restaurant where they sell gourmet dinners inexpensively. The service from self-conscious teenagers trying to act like high end waiters and waitresses is funny.

Well, based on the responses so far, it seems like basic survival in today's society is still being taught to a certain extent.
I'm amazed at what doesn't get taught at home today in this day and age of pre-packaged foods and disposable appliances.

Not only do they teach "shop" a local high school partnered with the carpenter's union to make the experience much more practical and to provide a career path for those not interested in college. Donated materials, tools and training by journeymen is being combined with integrated math, science and communication lessons.
