AHHHHHH my neighbor's mom has cut off his power
he's trying to get me to support his power needs. she wants him to get off his but and get and hold a job, stop drinking and make him a productive human. I'm dammed if I do and dammed if I don't.
he has been staying in her 2nd house by himself, and sponging off her. yesterday on the coldest day so far this year, his mother gets the power/gas/water cut off effectively evicting him, without serving him with any papers. pretty gutless move I think, puts it in my lap, because when my power got cut off last year, he helped me with a cord for 2 days... arrrgh. |
Fine, help him with a cord for two days. Then you'll be even.
|
That's pretty bad if his mother has to cut off his power to get him off his sorry ass and go to work. Yeah, two days and you're even. Then you can unplug your cord and be done with it.
|
I have a friend in that situation. I had to kick him out of my house because he quit his job, and went from drinking a 1.5l bottle every 2 days to one a day. :sad3: so he got the boot. then he lived with our other friend for 8 months, just sponging off them. then they kicked him out. now hes at home. his dad is furious but he is an only child so his mom is a little protective. so hes now sponging off them. its really sad because I'm not only his friend but friend with his parents and they are some of the nicest people i know. its sad to see my friend drinking and using them for their roof. :uneasy:
I can totally see where the mom is coming from. but i can understand having to repay the debt. talk to the mom and tell her that you owe him 2 days on the cord. then cut him off. |
Are you simply enabling him to avoid responsibility.
Sometimes a swift kick in the butt is what a friend needs to do. |
I think technically his mother helped you with the cord.
|
If he wont freeze to death don't give him power. Sometimes the person has to hit the real bottom to change.
|
Pay your debt. 2 days of extension cord power if he asks for it and no more.
|
And make damn sure that the extension cord is large enough, plugged into an adequate outlet, and that the outlet is fused to prevent excessive current draw. You don't want his problem to turn into your fire.
Were I doing it, I would add a temporary panel with a fast-blow fuse for the job. That means that it isn't a trivial thing. |
I'm not that kind, I'd let him freeze to death. Get a job you bum.
Make sure his mom gets the pipes drained so they don't burst.:D |

Either he's a friend or he's not.
If he is then you should help him in a limited way. if he's not then tell him he's on his own. Also I don't believe that one favor of 2 days on an electric chord is worth the same exact thing, nothing more. A favor is a favor. He did you one. You owe him one. For the duration, however long taht may be. Within reason of course. Danny |
welll... it'll hardly be even... the cord I hooked up from him to me, was just to run my fridge and the internet... that he uses too! as for him, he's using an electric heater, lights, and internet... WAAAAAAY more power than I used of his. (yeah, it was his mother's bill too...)
I try to get him to work with me, but he is always drunk, so I can't have him working and drinking on my jobs... just a waste of skin over there... |

Sounds to me like he’s the gutless one, not her.
Like PaulC and Dee8go stated. If you feel you own him, give him a chord for two days. That’s it. Otherwise he’ll sponge off you just like his mom. What put it in your lap? Did he come over and mention your plugging into his house for two days? If so, say sure. Two days for two days. And as SirNick mentioned, talk to the mom if you can. If it’s her house let her know what your doing and why. I’m sure she will agree with us here. Two days and that’s it. After that, take Hatts stand with the bum. Sounds like he could use a wakeup call. |
