Thumbs down Dangers of Splenda

If you are taking it, stop now.

http://www.globenewswire.com/newsroom/news.html?d=150785

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 22, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- James Turner, chairman of the national consumer education group Citizens for Health expressed shock and outrage after reading a new report from scientists at Duke University. "The report makes it clear that the artificial sweetener Splenda and its key component sucralose pose a threat to the people who consume the product. Hundreds of consumers have complained to us about side effects from using Splenda and this study, published this past week in the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health Part A, confirms that the chemicals in the little yellow package should carry a big red warning label," said Turner.

Gurkha, I think it was you who turned me onto Demerara sugar a couple of years ago. Never did care much for the artificial stuff...

Yep demerara is fine, so is Jaggery from palm and date as well as Stevia which is truly guilt free sweet as it is probiotic so its good for you as well. Also diabetics are totally safe on Stevia and the side effect believe it or not is that its good for your teeth as well.

Yeah.........I also like distilled sugar

Just say no. I stopped drinking anything with aspartame in it, bothered my joints. Best to stick with sugar.

They couldnt conduct the study on a human? How hard would it be to give someone some splenda and study their stomach and intestines for the absence of normally present good bacteria?

People should just stop searching for the magic pill.

30-40 minutes of exercise a day and don't eat too much. That'll solve most non-genetic problems.

Unless of course you caught the fat virus.

If there is one thing we manufacture well in the US it's diet products. I agree less intake and more output will keep us in better shape but sometimes it just isn't that easy. National Geographic had a program on about two weeks ago on fat and obesity that was a real eye opener.

I haven't trusted artificial sweeteners, ever since I heard about that deal with cyclamate in the late 60's/early 70's.

Artificial sweeteners give me a headache.

You ever had real CocaCola? If you buy it in Canada it's made with cane sugar, not corn syrup...
