Demo's annual retreat?

At the Kingsmill Resort and Spa. About 200 Demo senators are having their annual retreat at this place http://www.kingsmill.com/ I'm guessing they pay their own way, right? There's no way the tax payers could be footing the bill on this one could we?

Kingsmill is a nice track--Curtis Strange's home course. I'm about 30 mi. away and sometimes make it up for the AB/Michi Ultra tournament.

They probably get travel--who knows. I support off the Hill get togethers and W'burg is only a couple hours +/- from Washington.

I caught some of Obama's address to this crowd last night. I could only take about 15 minutes or so. IMO, it was half campaign speech rhetoric "tired old ways, etc" and half polite ordering of Dems to git 'er done. Rambled on some I thought. Too much appeared off the cuff.

I think the President set quite an example. He took Air Force One from DC to Williamsburg. I know he has the RIGHT, but is that the best message to send? Isn't that exactly what he criticized top business execs for doing--
taking a more expensive as opposed to a less expensive means of transport? He has a fleet of helicopters for these short trips.

Seems like he would have taken a chopper for that short of a trip, no? One of the ex-Marine 1 pilots lives sort of close to W'burg in Ware, VA, and he raises Texas Longhorn cattle in VA just to share useless trivia.

Not a big criticism, but I think he missed an opportunity to demonstrate leadership.
Its hard to believe that "we may not survive" when he wastes money on a trip like this as if its "business as usual".

Too much nitpicking going on around here, if you ask me.

All the talking heads on cable are going out of their way to be critical and/or skeptical of everything Obama says and does. It looks to me like they all want to prove that they haven't been drinking the Obama Koolaid. Bunch of sheep.

What happened to all the talk about wanting Obama to succeed? I don't see much of that going on these days, not from Democrats, not from talking heads, and certainly not from the GOP.

Do you know it cost more to fly one 747 152 miles than it would to fly 5 helicopters (required when a president flys Marine One)?

Botnst 02-06-2009 05:38 PM

Maybe he could use Skype.

PaulC 02-06-2009 05:42 PM

200 Demo Senators?

MS Fowler 02-06-2009 06:16 PM

No more nit picking than is common in US politics.

OK, my bad the story was about 200 Democrats. Senators, Congresmen, whatever.

I am under the impression that ONE 747 never flys by itself. There is always the backup.

From my limited knowledge, one 747 goes alone. The backup sits at Andrews. They do send all the equipment (vehicles, armament, etc.) on a transport of some type...........C5 or C141.

With all due respect to the OP, this thread seems more the product of an empty life than it does anything news or note worthy.
