I have this 35 year-old female part-time employee.

Today we were talking about 1980's punk bands and skin-heads. I mentioned the term "anti-semetic" and she asked, "I'm not sure what that is? Anti-jewish???"

I just about fell off my chair.

Ignorance like that bums me out. She isn't college educated, but that shouldn't matter, doesn't help though.

There's a news article today debating the merits of Black History Month in the era of Obama. One camp says effort is better spent ensuring US history education includes black history, and the emphasis of Black History Month alienates peope who think it's aimed only at Blacks and suggests nothing goes on the rest of the year.

the same thing happens on college campuses; minorities and women marginalized themselves in the 60's, when instead of changing the existing history, sociology etc departments, they insisted on setting up their own separate departments. when i was in college, you didn't find any whites taking uh black studies classes, men in women's (oops, womyn's ) studies etc. i am supposed to be the "liberal" on this forum, but on this issue i am, well, something else.?

I remember when I was in college back in the late 80's. I took a native American history class, womans history and black history. I was the only guy in the womans class, the only white in the black class. Very sad that the people who most needed to learn about it were not present in the class. I know I learned quite a bit and I am glad the classes were offered.

However, I hate to be Mr Smartie Pants here, but the correct spelling should read "Anti- Semitic".

But since I am neither the inventor nor a subscriber of such a cult, to hell with it!

Btw, the term was coined by a German. I am still not clear how that guy could come up with such a paradox.
