People choose their neighborhoods on income level, location, resale values, school system, etc.. The housing market has changed, income disparity has grown, neighborhoods have less variety in price of homes, HOA mentality, and I'm sure many other factors that have led to people of differing minds to either choose or be forced to choose to live in different neighborhoods.
I was thinking same. My previous neighborhood had many long term residents who mostly retired. Right-wing conservative was the dominant position.
My new neighborhood has a much younger population where our new pop-culture leader is embraced. While in a local store I overheard two 20-something women remarking how refreshing it is to not have "old farts" in office.

By the way, I live near Philly and nobody has offered to push in my stool.
