Stunned and saddened...

... beyond words.

Yesterday, this article didn't mention any names.

This morning I found out the gentleman injured is John, the giant, kind hearted, teddy bear of a man who is our contractor on the new old house in Frederick. You couldn't invent a more genuine, gentle, warm human being if you tried.

Now he's at Maryland Shock Trauma with part of his skull removed and no word on his prognosis. Damn, damn, double damn.

Sorry to hear that. I hired a mason last week who had fallen three stories with a scaffold last August. He was in a coma for 3 weeks and doctors said he had a 5% chance of survival but he has now returned to normal. I hope your friend does likewise.

I'm sorry to hear that and will put him in my prayers. Baltimore has one of the finest trauma units in the country.

Seems the collapsed wooden structure was NOT scaffolding, but the trash chute/slide that John was building. He was on a ladder next to the chute, and grabbed for the chute when he lost balance on the ladder. The chute then came down on top of him.

No updates on his condition yet - still listed only as "critical."

Ok, now THAT makes more sense! When I read the article the first thing I thought was," What kind of fool builds a scaffolding out of 2X4's"?.

I'm hoping for his complete recovery. Best wishes.

Because I choose to express my sympathy thus and wish for a speedy recovery for the fellow I open myself to the most impudent misconstruction?

Sorry to soil this thread but I feel affronted.

It happened at The Banner School. No new news on John's condition - two surgeries and he's still unconscious. In my original post there is a link to a story in the News Post - it's still available, though kinda sparse on details.
