Safety of rear seats in trucks
 

I am looking to buy a new truck. I want a Doge diesel 3/4 ton with an extended cab so I can fit my two sons (4 & 7), and the wife has to go too, I guess.

What I really want is an older truck with a 12v Cummins, but my concern is the back seat may not be safe. If you look at them, the back of the rear seat only comes up about 2 feet with no headrest. In a rear impact anyone in the backseat, thier head it going to smash into the rear window. I believe that trucks don't have to pass the same safety standards that cars have to.

In a Dodge, they don't have rear headrests until 2004, a bit newer ($) than I was hopeing to buy. I like to pay cash for my vehicles, so used is the way for me.

Booster seats are recommended up until they are 4'9"/100 lbs. so you could go with with full seat boosters with back/headrests in the meantime. I have seen aftermarket headrests, probably in JC Whitney. Maybe even pick up a 04+ rear seat w/headrests at a yard and retrofit it. Luxury conversion and upfit companies often have stock seats available for sale.

Thats a good idea, retrofitting a newer seat. I wonder if the truck or mounting points have changed over the years. I will try that question over at Oilburners.com
