From my understanding an earthquake has to trigger a land slide or a vertical movement of the ocean floor for a tsunami to be triggered. Most earthquakes are simple horizontal movements of the ground or ocean floor, triggering no waves.

It looks like a beautiful place to live.
I don't miss Jakarta. It's mostly a big, filthy, polluted city, though there are some nice neighborhoods. The climate is nice initially, but I quickly got tired of it. 90+ degrees and 90+% humidity almost every day of the year! But the beaches in the countryside, especially the islands north of Jakarta are like tropical paradise.

It's the frequency and amplitude of the shake, IIRC. Like if you're in the hot tub with some guy whose name I can't recall. There's a fundamental frequency y'all hit that gets the waves rolling back and forth across the tub.

But if y'all don't git the right rhythm you get no big waves rolling over you. One after another ....

So to speak.
