This stuff will plug the leak:
http://www.kk.org/cooltools/archives/001586.php As used on the Alaska Highway. If the hole is bigger than a .22 bullet hole, knead it into a piece of cotton t-shirt and stuff it in the hole.

A hole in the top of the tank is not that hard to seal. Anything that stops vapor loss probably will work.
My thirty seven chevy that I had in college had a bullet hole in the tank and som other places. I filled that with bondo. NO problemo!

Do it right. Get a tank from a salvage yard. If you have to pull the tank to do the fix, you are already half way there. Fuel tanks are not a place to do things cheap/easy. Plus you'll get a chance to inspect/replace any iffy fuel lines. You'll feel better and it is good atonement for an honest mistake.

Yup, with a picture like that I am not sure whether it is proof that Darwin was all wet or a poster for forced sterilization.
Poor Hattie! Dude looks like his family tree only has one limb on it and it's a gnarly one. I know that I am NEVER gonna post a picture where Chad can get to it! |

If anyone ever expressed a negative thought about their photoshopped pic, I would take it down. I'm just messin' around with my friends and never want to cause any hard feelings.
Plus ... I've posted pics of myself that could be just as easily accessed. Any photoshop I post has already gone through my filter of "would I be upset if someone did this to my pic?".

True, but the majority of us don't have your mad 'shop skillz! That's like handing me some surgical implements and telling me to get after that brain surgery.
