Jim B.

Thanks for the Subie Outback info. Nice to hear it from an owner -- my local dealer is as helpful as a puppy dog at feeding time.

I like how the Finn raves about the heater. Heater quality ain't an issue for the week or so I may use it.

Thanks again.

You are very welcome!!!

Apparently those Webasto heaters, that you still find in the older Mercedes sometimes, do the trick.

And in Sweden and Finland, the combo of a remote starter, a Webasto, and winter and summer diesel fuel available makes owning a diesel very viable now even in -30* C. winter weather.

The Europeans are sold on station wagons *and* diesel engines. Petrol costs $9.00 a gallon in Denmark in 2008 I have read.

*************

I would likely even consider trading in my new Outback wagon for an even newer one with that Boxer diesel engine. it's a big hit in Europe already.

All you need to know about Subie Outbacks can be found on the Mercedesshop like forum and www.subaruoutback.org

I would encourage you to nose around there, ALL the owners share experiences, tips, knowledge there, even the dealers get reviewed there.

Having one PLUS the Mercedes in the garage makes me feel there is always a car for all reasons in the garage to choose

Jim, I subscribed to this magazine http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/ and just got my first issue. it has a 4 page article on the history of Subaru. It was a great read. I'll see what I can do about scanning it and getting it up so you can read it.

I used to go here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/

I went there yesterday, and noticed the site is down because of stupid hackers. There was a lot of good information there, and it looks like they lost a bit of it.

First time they came to San Francisco: "WTF is THAT?"

Nik, that was fun!! Thanks a lot.

You know I remember when the first shipment of those ugly little 360s came into San Francisco, they stored them near Ft Mason, and NOBODY WOULD BUY any,

They looked so ugly that people thought they were a spoof of a Fiat 600, you know the Topolino things. Worse, most of them were chicken fat yellow.

As I recall, ( I could be wrong) the boatload of unsold cars sat there so long they began to rust from the SF bay salt air, and no body knew what to do with them, and people asked should they send them back to Japan, or pitch them all into the San Francisco bay,

And as I recall, I think the actually may have dumped them into the bay 'cause it would have cost too much to ship them back to Japan. LOL

I cannot believe that I once totally laughed at those Subies and that all these years later I not only BOUGHT a new one but that I LIKE it.

About 30 years ago I saw some Toyota or somesuch running around with a personalised license plate that said THEY WON

Now I geddit, what he was saying.

Bot is liking the idea of the Subie Boxer diesel.

Bot does not like buying a new car.

Bot is in a quandary.

Poor Bot.

If you give me your E300D, you would have a reason to purchase a new car.

Poor Bot indeed.

(Whats the pocketbook damage going to look like on the new ones? 20k+?)

BTW - Jim it was good talking to you today.

Smile Someone's been checking the Audi pictures....

This is the first picture I have seen of what the new '10 Outback will probably look like. One of these was shown last week at the car show in Pennsylvania.

They look, (as they say in the Southwest,) "Slicker than snake spit".

If one of these comes out with a Boxer Diesel engine, probably Botnst and I will be at the Subaru dealer to get one....
