Who likes Steely Dan?

I have found that I enjoy Again and a couple of others. I was talking with a new girl yesterday, and she also; loves this old stuff. She is another post, but their is deafinitly something special about old music. Again takes me to the 70's without ever possibly having been there. I was born in '84.

Steely Dan is in my top ten favorite bands. I've loved them ever since Reelin' in the Years first came out. I finally got to see them play live about four years ago and they were terrific.

Walter Becker lives over on Maui, but they have only done a couple concerts here over the decades.

For a bit of modern irony, give "Things I Miss The Most" from the 2003 "Everything Must Go" CD. A post divorce lament

The talk
The sex
Somebody to trust
The comfy Eames chair
The good copper pans
The '54 Strat
These are the things I miss the most

I felt pretty fortunate to get to see them in concert at the Nissan Pavillion in N. VA. I didn't think they did many concerts.

I love their sense of humor and think they're great musicians. I always liked Deacon Blues.

I always liked them... Great band!

Lots of hits too

"Do It Again"

"Kid Charlemange"

"Black Friday"

"Deacon Blues"

"Hey 19"

and my favorite (from "The Nightfly" Fagen's solo record}

"International Geophysical Year"

I.G.Y.
Standing tough under stars and stripes
We can tell
This dream's in sight
You've got to admit it
At this point in time that it's clear
The future looks bright
On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
Well by seventy-six we'll be A.O.K.

What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

Get your ticket to that wheel in space
While there's time
The fix is in
You'll be a witness to that game of chance in the sky
You know we've got to win
Here at home we'll play in the city
Powered by the sun
Perfect weather for a streamlined world
There'll be spandex jackets one for everyone

What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

On that train all graphite and glitter
Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
(More leisure time for artists everywhere)
A just machine to make big decisions
Programmed by fellows with compassion and vision
We'll be clean when their work is done
We'll be eternally free yes and eternally young

What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

Good band. My favorite band from that general time frame is by far The Doors though. Heck they're my favorite band today too. Hard to listen to the crap on the radio after you listen to The Doors too much. There was an interesting Oliver Stone movie about them (mostly Jim Morrison) which was rather sensationalized but entertaining nonetheless. Val Kilmer's a pretty good actor.

Attended Syversant High School on East 15th Street Manhattan NY with Walter Becker. He said they got together one time at Walter's apartment in the Dakota (Central Park West) and he said Walter hadn't changed all that much from who he was in the early '70's but still a session musician at heart. According to Walter, the remastering and release of their catalogue on CD made them some serious coin, enough so he would never have to work again, ever...

A girl that likes Dan Steel? Never thought it could happen. Maybe it was me after all. Throw out your gold teeth and see how they roll...well I'm laughing at the frozen rain...just give fair warning any time you come around...act natural like you don't care...where are you driving Midnight Cruiser...I have a friend in town, he's heard your name...good tunes and only a buck or two from the discount shelf.

Speaking of "FM" . . . was that movie ever released on DVD? Jimmy Buffet did "Livingston Saturday Night" on it. It was the precursor to "WKRP in Cincinnati"

My old girl friends use to call me Steely Stan, Stan being my middle name. My wife of 27 years calls me Stan the Man.

I cought them live a year back, I missed them this year (HAD to work...) It's an AMAZING live show. Songs were performed like I had my albums playing. Lights were on perfect cue with the songs.
