This was when the engineers had a heavy hand in design and German build logic. The classic was the outside mirror adjustment. The passenger side was electrical but the driver side had a manual lever to adjust the mirror. The logic behind it was why do you need and electric motor when the lever is 6" away from your hand. Also no cup holders because the car was meant to be driven and not be used as a 4 wheel cafateria

...So THAT'S why theres no cup holders !!! I always wondered what was up with that......seriously, I don't have the experience that most of you all have, but my 560 SEL is a really impressive ride, even for being almost 20 years old. I can drop it in third gear and keep up with most mustangs and camaros on the road. The car really comes to life when it gets above 100 mph. Smooth and classy.

The 560SEC was also nice, but it seemed silly to have such a huge car, and not have much interior space. I mean, it's big for a coupe, but why settle when you could have a HUGE rear seat that reclines and has foot rests? It was a no brainer for me, but then I like to haul my friends and family around in comfort.
yeah too bad when I haul people around in my W126 LWB, it just bottoms out the suspension.

Sounds like you need shocks...

Either that, or get a 560SEL. The rear leveling hydraulic suspension keeps the rear level, no matter the load.

I'll take a semi-trailing arm (STR) rear and recirculating ball steering (RBS) unit over multilink with rack and pinion speed assist steering any day compared to other cars in the Mercedes lineup:

I like my car at 120 mph to be rock solid and in control (RBS), and I like to be notified when I reach the limits of handling (STR). Much more fun and communicative, imho. The newest models just feel dead.

OK, First has to be the SSK, then the Adenauer and then the W126

I think that they are worse than dead because the rack and pinions don't provide the isolation that the RBS does.

I vote for the 600. Nothing was shortcut on that.
