We could smuggle it into Europe and sell it on the blackmarket.

Not like we can't use a few bucks.

$2.01 here in Saratoga NY. Its slow but creeping up.

Kuan 02-15-2009 08:58 PM

Too bad we can't buy gas wholesale and store it in our very own underground tank.

You want to hear the best one? My son told me that this Foreign Exchange studnt in one of his classes at College said that "Well since GW. Bush is in Oil. He controls the oil prices and thats why gas is high. He runs the country and raises gas prices to get rich" I almost died when I herd this from him.

There was an interesting segment on 60 minutes about the rice and fall of gas prices.

John Denver did that back in 1979. I think he put in 25000 gallon tanks under his back yard.

You can also buy gas wholesale. Buy gasoline futures and then don't flip the contract. You will end up having to take delivery. Then you just have to find a tank to store it in.
Gotta be easier than a friend of mine who f*cked up a contract on FCOJ (frozen concentrated orange juice) and had to find a freezer tank for 7500 gallons of the stuff :D

How would that work though? I mean, if you use it heavily, sure. IF not, I thought gas goes bad after a bit? You may have to dump tons of Stabil in it but I am not sure how long you can store it. Also, do you think your neighbors are going to have an issue with a 25000 gallon bomb in the backyard? I know I would.

Is that Eddie Murphy in Trading Places?

I have a friend who runs a fuel station for snowmobiles. Wonder how many gallons she has. I'll ask.

John Denver stored Diesel because someone told his it would not go bad. I guess that would be a matter of just how long you stored it.

In 1979 I was waiting in line at a gas station (wating for it to open) when a member of the House of Representives pulled in behind he. We were joking with him about did he not have a secret stash of fuel for people like him somewhere and he said he had to buy his gas like everyone else.

What was sort of eye-opening to all of us in line was that he had no more of a clue as to why gas was in such short supply as the rest of us.

A lot of farmers have their own tanks for diesel and gasolene. Many have them above ground on skids which is fine if you have a good turnover of the contents. If you put in the additional investment to put the tank under ground, the fuel lasts MUCH longer. I guess this is probably due to the more constant temperature and thus reduced loss of vapors.

Gasolene stored in an underground tank as small as 250 gallons will be good for 5, 10 or more years depending on the exact conditions of the location and whether the fuel remainder is in a near-full or near-empty tank. That's my personal experience. Diesel fuel will last much much longer.

If you end up being "Omega Man" you'll be able to drive for the rest of your life on existing fuel in tanks.

I agree... the way the economy is now, if gas goes back up to $3.00 or more per gallon, we are doomed.

Right now, premium is averaging $2.00 per gallon here.

iwrock 02-17-2009 02:50 AM

Premium was $2.50 a week ago....

This week, its around $2.59.

GregoryV022 02-17-2009 03:53 AM

in the bay area CA, premium is around 2:50,

and Diesel is 2:23 at its cheapest,

now its a little easier to fill up a 300SDL. but the pump stops before shes full, so thats always two receipts tank.
