That's okay, the government is going to spend our tax dollars to subsidize the shift from analog to digital as part of economic recovery.

They're spending that money on zillions of LCD TV's and Converter boxes....all made in Asia! Might as well just send all our money there instead of most of it.

Here's the deal...

"O" promised to extend the deadline because, as a recently released Congressperson, he still felt he had to kiss a few folks' tushies to keep them happy (His buddies in the Senate). He forgot that he was President and should have kept his mouth shut and let the idiots that started this party pay for the party...

Anyways...a few folks freaked, screamed that the "sky is going to fall" (I might not get re-elected!) and managed to jam another piece of stink through the Oval Office Door for a little "Hancocking"...

Here's what it really means for the folks that understand and have to work with it...

#1.) If a station in a market chooses to (now) turn off "early" (17 Feb.'09), that station has to meet, at least, 8 points/conditions on a list that was supplied to the stations this past Thursday afternoon...and the 8 conditions need to be certified, outlined and will need further compliance testing 'til, at least, the end of this coming March...

#2.) These conditions, if met, will include having the stations in each market, come together and agree, among themselves, which station (the FCC already selected "eligible" stations) will become a "night-light" facility (NLF)...a NLF has to reduce it's analog power enough so that it will not cause interference to another, new, digital station in close proximity to it. The NLF also has to run MANDATED FCC announcements describing how to buy/purchase/acquire coupons/converter boxes and related gear...how the stations in the market will provide local engineering and staff help to get the boxes installed and/or programmed. The NLF will have the option to run their local news programming, but that's pretty much it...basically, the station will have to be a Government "barker" channel...nothing more...

In the mean time, the other stations can shut off their analog ONLY after the FCC gives the finally OK...due either Monday or sometime in the near future, if at all...

As it stands right now...in the state of Wisconsin, there are no PBS stations on the NLF list...yet, they have been mandated by some "force" within their own programming organization to remain on the air until 12 June...at the immediately known cost of at least $17,000/month for the cost of additonal electricity alone...

And us folks in Wisconsin thought our own State Government was ready to play the "Greener Than You" card with our neighbors...

So, while Congress goes about, shooting randomly in the air at fish that are safely in a barrel...we continue to watch our hard-earned tax dollars get shot to hell based on another branch of public servants forgetting the first part of what their jobs actually mean and they'll dictate to us that they're are going to spend more money than was actually approved LAST JULY...

Someone needs a "sleepy" pill...and I'm WAY OVERDUE...

Nighty-night!

Talk about "Much Ado"

The Damn advertisers are Terrified their revenue stream will be interrupted.

"Americans who can't watch TV,cannot see all the Dross We need to Sell Them."

If you were going to:
(Wait a minute, the List of Federal Agencies that should be Permanently Shut Down due to Ineptitude is Too Long To Print.)
DUMP any Federal Agency FCC, should be #5 on the list.

The stations in Oklahoma are going on 17 Feb. The PBS station here (there is only one but it broadcast statewide through repeater stations) will delay the switch at repeaters along the borders for some reason.

Oklahoma still has a lot of the old oil company attitude in it in that you don't just do something; you overdo it. Every channel in the state has been braodcasting in HD for months now, and only some last minute chage put the PBS station in to a slight delay.

PBS here, by the way, was the first broadcaster in the state to go to HD.

This may all be a moot point, though, as several people I know receive all their television over their internet connection. I think this is a coming thing and while it will not be the end of broadcast it might be the beginning of the end for dish systems.
