Last I saw nobody was eating tire rubber-- or connecting rods.
I am all for getting lead out of children's toys, but this kind of regulation is getting ridiculous.

Oh and yes, there are bikes and ATV's made for kids. Lots of parents take their kids out to trails in the woods for recreation. I bet some of them also have a .22

maybe so, but the cumulative effect of hundreds of bikes over years and years will be in the soil churned up. At some point it will be dangerous every time any of the kids pass through. again with the leaded gas example. the lead from one car not so much, but after a long time its everywhere. on that account we waited until it was a problem, I would rather they stop a problem before it becomes dangerous rather than try to clean it up later. also all the same places that the bikes are going are open to hikers, do the hikers deserve to be exposed in order that the riders get to ride prelead free equipment. maybe the biggest issue is that gov moves so slow and not very practical, but you cant expect any bill to predict every ripple it creates. If enough people write the gov and complain, or if the manufacturers can make a case they will hopefully adjust the time frame for some to phase in. but either way the lead free direction is the right long term path. I have been designing to lead free in electrical and mechanical along with other chemical reductions. Europe has WEEEand RoHS requirements so these manufacturers had to know this was coming for a lot of years before now.

Question:

1. How many kids dirt bikes and ATV's are there for every adults dirt bike?
2. As far as I can tell adults dirt bikes and ATV's are not held to this standard.
3. What about car parts, trailer parts, and other's?

Lets not forget they ride the same trials. What percentage of traffic is made up on average of kids vehicals vs adults?

Has anyone done any testing of the lead content of the soil of say a dirt bike park, and determined the source?

I have no data to back it up, just sayin. they called the little bikes toys and they got lumped in with the chinese lead paint scare. but the lead will be legislated out of everything soon enough just like its being done in europe. manufactures know this is coming, its been around my industry for 5 years

If your kid is a tire-biter, lead poisoning is not your major problem.

Do you have to have a kid to know that?
