32" HDTV Recommendation

After much research, I was ready to buy Toshiba. Then further research told me that their lamps tend to burn out just after the 1-year warranty burns out. Now I'm considering Sharp. The only negative I can find so far is the programing of the remote. Recommendations????????

What price range?

I got a Samsung lcd I like a lot for less than the 700 it usually goes for.

Go to a store and pace up and down staring at them till you get a good feel for what they are... is my advice.

Ditto. I picked up a Samsung after Christmas and have been very happy with it. Samsung actually manufactures some of Sony's LCD panels for them, so the quality is good And the exchange rate against Korea's currency is better than against the yen, so there is more opportunity to work a better deal.

I'm on year 3 with my 32" Vizio and have been very pleased. I'm thinking of a 42+ inch 1080p and wouldn't hesitate to buy another Vizio. No idea how they stack up on paper, though. I bought direct from Vizio, the Walmart around here seems to only stock the 720p ones.

A good dollar value is the "Dynex". It may not be the greatest picture quality but it's pretty darned good.

I've had nothing but bad luck with Toshibas and Samsung. I love the brightness of the Toshibas but they do toast within a year or two. Samsungs are great pictures but their service department is horrid and their sets are also short-lived (3 Samsung top of the line TV's within 5 years just went "poof"). All of them were on surge protected circuits but the whiz kids at Sammy claimed "voltage spikes".

Vizio's make good sets, Olevia is right there with them.

I had a chance to buy a used 32" Olevia for $340, but the guy waffled so much during e-mails and finally sold it to someone else. I can't go above $500 at the moment. So it sounds like all are in agreement that Sharp among others is good, yes? The thing is: they all perform great at first. It's the longevity that I'm interested in.

They don't make them like they used to, but I'll get back to you in ten years about the Samsung.

If you want something cheap, get a Dynex from Best Buy. Its like 397 for a 32".

Anyone else have a DLP? My dad just got a 62" Samsung DLP for $1100. I think he got a discount b/c he works for Texas Instruments and there is some TI tech used in the TV. This is one of the newer versions of the DLPs with LED backlight instead of incandescent... thus negating the need to replace the bulb. The old TV was a big ole 55" Mitsubishi which was a great TV. Worked very nicely for 11 years or so.

Google 'Sharp banding'.

Then buy a Samsung.

Sony is excellent, but the margin of what you pay for what you get is still too wide, IMO.

I bought a 52" Samsung LCD and I love it, it's been a fantastic TV.

At the moment, I'm vasilating between the Sharp 32" 720p and the Vizio 32'' Class Java Series Full-HD 1080p LCD HDTV. I have found both for $497. Again, I like the reviews from folks that have had these models for a while. The Vizio obviously has the resolution over the Sharp. Other than that, I am counting on you guys to help me finalize the decision, with great appreciation for your time.
