I am sooooo smoooooth!

Today I picked up my new to me Mitsubishi Montero which has my snow plow attached from the shop.

On the way home I stopped to fill the tank. I took off the gas cap and set it on the bumper behind the gas filler door. So I filled the little jewel up and headed over toward the bookstore. After going about a half mile and around two corners I happened to look in the rear view mirror and saw the gas door standing open.

$hit! I left the gas cap on the bumper too I bet! So I made a u turn at the next intersection and headed back toward the station looking all along the way for my errant cap. I caught a light and decided what thehell I will look at the bumper just in case it might still be there.

I hopped out and went back there and whoooooooahhhhhhhh, the gas cap was still on the bumper!

After doing a little dicky doo dance and screwing the cap back on I said to myself as the light turned green....."I am one smooooooooth duuuuuude!"

Can anybody beat my record of driving with something sitting on the bumper....or any other odd place?

I got a pizza home 3 miles one time, I couldnt believe how popular I was, everyone honking and waiving. But I did lose a very nice pool stick off the roof, and it had my favorite darts in the pocket.

I've been using the Adapt-a-Ball hitch system for a few years...the balls are interchageable on the shaft by pressing in/out a pin, swapping the proper size needed for the trailer tongue and then storing the unused balls in a nylon sack...

After putting on the trailer, the 1-7/8" and 2-5/16" balls were left in the bag on the bumper.

I took off and headed up towards Eau Claire...

I was just getting onto Hwy 53 and needed to hit the brakes 'cause a semi wasn't going to move over.

As I started to slow down and move over to the shoulder, I saw two silver balls passing me...at about 55 m.p.h..

Crap!!! My Stainless Steel Balls are rolling down the highway?!?!?!?!

As it was...it was morning traffic heading north...so...trying to see where two speeding balls were going to stop at was a bit difficult, to say the least...

Bottom line? I only found the 2-5/16" ball and after a half hour, the sack and shaft cover...about 3 miles from the house...

$25.00 screwup...

Tom, I'd hate to break it to you but I've managed the following some of which are due to partying on the back bumpers of trucks too much.

The best one is a cell phone that made a 60+ mile trip from Kalamazoo to East Lansing, the second was an almost full 12 pack of Coors Light for about 2 miles before someone said "Where's the beer". The third which is not the last and certainly not the least is 3 G. Loomis IMX fishing rods that made a 15 mile journey, we left a dam for a Mcdonalds and when I got out of the car I noticed the rods on top of the Land Cruiser.

A friend made a lengthy trip with his Glock on the bumper.

I drove about 12 miles to work one day with my daily newspaper sitting on the bumper of my pickup truck. It was folded and in a plastic bag.
Along the way I had a few jerks behind me flashing lights & beeping the horn for some reason

One time I had a flat tire on my Avion on the highway down in Alabama or one of our southern neighbors. I pulled off the interstate to put on my spare and then headed for the nearest auto tire store to get a new tire to run on.

After going maybe an eighth of a mile I turned to the lovely Mrs. W and said ..."I think maybe I forgot to tighten the lug nuts"....and began slowing down to pull over.

Just about that time I felt a little bump and the wheel took off down the road, passing us like we were standing still. It was a nice aluminum wheel and a decent tire so we naturally stopped and got out to look for it. We all looked and looked for over a half hour and could not find it.

I had to buy a new wheel and tire. It must have ended up inside someone's backyard fenced area.

Many of you got me beat on this one, I can only recall two situations. I had an Olds Cutlass and left a garage door remote on the rear bumper "shelf" by the license plate. I was going nuts trying to find what happened to it. Drove for three days until it was fill up time again and I found it. Although it got wet it still worked.

Driving back from the New Jersey beach I was on a long two lane road through the Jersey Pinelands. It was dark and rainy but I noticed the SUV in front of me had a set of keys in the rear hatch. I followed it for many miles until we finally hit a stop light. I jumped out, removed the keys, and ran to the driver's window. There was a family in the SUV and they were looking at me like I was crazy while I was trying to explain I had their keys. The driver finally lowered the window and I handed him his keys. They had no idea what was going on and the look on their face was priceless.

I wonder if they ever figured out how a stranger had their keys.

I lost a gas cap on my Datsun 710 and stuck a rag in as substitute for a few days until one of my friends suggested I was driving a Japanese molotov cocktail.

Point.

Anyway Tom, I think my example points to a greater degree of boneheadedness on my end. Heck, you couldn't even properly LOSE your gas cap.

My Ford F250 has a bed cover so while in the cab you cannot see if the tailgate is up or down.

A floor jack rolled out once but I was lucky nobody was behind me. I was able to back up and retrieve it. It was kinda cool watching a floor jack rolling in a straight line going 35 mph.

I lost a cooler with a case of beer on ice. Never noticed it fell out until I got to my destination. My friends were not impressed.

I was helping a friend and had a bunch of carpentry tools on the tailgate. He needed something at the hardware store and I let him use my truck. Tools were scattered for an eighth mile but we found them all.

I have thought about installing a warning light for the tailgate similar to the gas filler door open.

I've taken off with the gas pump nozzle still inserted 3 times. Its always when I go into the store and buy something, then walk out to the car and take off.

This thread reminds me of this funny prank..
