reporting a DUI

Sunday afternoon I was running a few errands. While driving along a local road I noticed the guy ahead of me driving erratic. After a few miles of debating whether to call 911 I make the call. The guy pulls into a parking lot, stumbles out of his car, and heads to the liquor store. Police show up, find him and make an arrest.

The police interview me after the arrest. Ends up the guy was driving on a suspended license from a prior DUI, after searching his car the police find a gun. The car had no insurance and no current inspection.

I was glad I made the call.

Good job...keep it up...

A lot of times, what appears to be a drunk driver is nothing more than a sleepy driver...could have fooled me...but it's better to have THEM off the road before they're into the ditch, or worse yet, a fatal because we did nothing about it.

Anyone that hits the fog-line and center-line within a block is needing a time-out...regardless the reason...

In this state there's a unlimited slap on the wrist policy unfortunately. Of course it's tough to distinguish drunk, and or people texting on their phones if they have tinted windows.

I think we're still leading the way for drunk drivers!

Tomorrow I'll be driving a float in a courier de mardi gras on the farm roads off a forgotten state highway. I'll be in an SUV pulling a stock trailer full of Cajun musicians. We meet at 6 AM to form up the parade which supposedly leaves at 8 AM to meander through the back country collecting items for a communal gumbo at the end of the parade. Last year I don't think we rolled until 9 or later. We were supposed to be back in time to prepare a huge gumbo for an early supper, but that didn't actually happen until after dark.

People dress in strange costumes and speak in a peculiar language, begging residents for gumbo materials. If the capitaine believes they are insufficiently sincere or lack proper enthusiasm he may get off his high horse and whip them with a rope and make them crawl to the farmer begging for mercy. Sometimes the farmer will release a couple of live chickens and the mardi gras give chase. Now there's something about oddly dressed inebriated young men in a group activity that defies description, but suffice to say that a couple dozen deranged men chasing desperately terrified roosters around a farm yard is not a common scene. You may have to trust me on that.

Laissez le bon temps roulez, chers!

News at eleven.

Exclamation Her story.

Almost exactly a YEAR ago, I had a first - and only - date with a 43 y o local woman - very pretty, bright, funny too. But after that she "friend zoned" me because she was the marketing mgr for the HOA I am under, citing possible conflict of interest. Before the date she had said no.

Out of the blue I heard from her the other day. Said that she went to the HS talent show Sat with her two teens, and afterwards dropped them off at the midnite movie matinee while she went for a glass of wine with the producers of it down town. Then went for more money at the ATM and the cell rang and she was invited by some other people at another place for a glass of wine so whe went.

(This is a small town btw). Afterwards, she picked up the kids but her battery on the car was dead and she could not get it jumped. So someone brought her her sisters junky old toyota pickup that ran, and the kids got in.

She told me when she backd up out of the parking space she lightly tapped ("no damage") - the car behind, but its driver jumped up and down and yelled at her, so she just drove away. It was about a mile to her house.

But the cops on the beat were across the street, and within seconds 4 squad cars intercepted her, she said 200 yards away from home, and wrote her for DUI, child endangerment, and hit and run.

She told me because she had a fight and lost her job, in Dec, she had no car insurance, at the time, just yet, and also had only a single bite of lasagna for dinner.

They took her to the station (she said) and she made the mistake of saying oh now my whole life is ruint, I wish I was dead, and for this, she was stripped and thrown nude into a Jail psych cell for 12 hours too.

********************

I had two immediate questions for her:

(a). What did you "blow"?

(b). Do you have any priors?

Her answers:

(a) I "blew" .16 --- (the legal limit is .08 in Calif)

(b) Yeah I had a prior DUI in '04.

****************************

Thought to myself, "Baby, you in a *HEAP* 'o trouble" and "Thank got I did not date this one ever again, close escape. They don't wear signs."

"Where is the drama llama when I need it?"

Got call from the police. They had some questions and asked if I would testify in court since I was the only one who witnessed him driving.
