Who has read Atlas Shrugged?

If you haven't you should. Even though it was published in 1957 it is very timely for what is happening today. I first read it about 10 years ago and I decided to read it again 2 months ago. The parallels to our current situatin are scarey. Let me know what you think-Scott

I loved that book. I was thinking of reading it again. The Fountainhead was also good. Those are the only two books of Rand's that I have read, but I loved them both.

If you want to start small, Anthem is good. That should get you primed for the longer tomes.

I was reluctant to start Atlas Shrugged at first because of the length of it. Once I began reading it, though, I couldn't put it down. I havent read Anthem. Maybe I will.

I have loved that book for years. Atlas Shrugged is Rand's best book in my opinion. It is very readable and it is very pertinent to today's situation.

I am waiting for Directive 10-289 to be made into law

It's probably the greatest literary argument in favor of capitalism in the world. I think a lot of business schools make it required reading. Probably a lot of other schools should do so, too.

youtube has several interviews with Ayn Rand posted. I watched a couple with Phil Donohue the other day; interesting!

The only thing I don't like about Ayn Rand's books are the readers. There are three who haunt a nice Panera coffee shop where I go when I get a day off and want to drink coffee and use my laptop with the free WiFi there. They all have Ayn Rand T-shirts, belong to Ayn Rand fan clubs and attach themselves to you like disciples of Werner Erhard

They all ask positive tag questions, i.e. "You like Ayn Rand, don't you?" to start off the conversation.

The books are good but somehow or other, they start a weird cult.

If I wanted that, I'd join a political party...

She fled Russia just about the time of the Bolshevik revolution, I believe. That inluence is pretty clear in her perspective.

Her best novel, IMO, was "We the Living." It's less propagandistic than Atlas or Fountainhead (both of which I enjoyed, BTW).

It's semi-autobiographical of her years in the Soviet Union.
