D and C is time that could be better spent preparing for combat. In my opinion.

You can tell where my head's been at lately. I thought this thread was going to be about machine tools. Expected to see something like this: http://innovation.specialtydesign.com/sdm/2008/02/project-snaps-3.html

USMC Silent Drill Team!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KUntwGCG7k

Real small arms close quarter drill = M1's with mounted bayonets! There are a couple dozen other YouTube videos also, but if you really want to see something and your ever in Washington DC try to get to the Marine Barracks at 8th & I for one of their exhibitions. They appear all around the country and world at various times if you can its really worth seeing in person.

I agree. I've seen quite a few on Youtube. I have to say though that I've looked at the "Grosser Zapfenstreich" that has been posted a few times on the tube and it seems to me that they have lost some of their oomph!, if you know what I mean.

Espirit de Corps is just as important to a military organization as is training. Think of the U.S. Army during Carter's administration - low, low morale there. Besides, those are Marines - each one of them has to qualify as a rifleman every year.

I believe it was General Patton who had a dislike for D and C, and I lightly echo that mindset. I'm more for practical uses for time, and once someone is absolutely proficient in their job, then this training should occur. I'd rather have someone who knows their MOS covering me, then someone who refuses to march at a roundstep...

I'm not saying I'm an exbert in D&C, but I just view that there are more ways to spend their time.
But, for parades and other events open to the public eye, it definitely looks good.
