Opinions on this 560SEC...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1991-Mercedes-Benz-560-SEC-560SEC-Coupe-ONLY-82k-miles_W0QQitemZ110359342652QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash =item110359342652&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A317|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

Alright, I think it looks to be in very good shape (A lot of the 560SEC's that I see have faded wood trim and cracked unconditioned black leather seats) Paint looks good and I think one good polish and wax would bring it right up to where it needs to be.

Now....

Iwrock says its a junk that defiantly has more then 82,000 miles on it. Corrosion in the engine bay etc etc.... This coming from someone who may or may not have a mint 560SEC lying around somewhere...

The drivers side seat bolster is worn down, the bottom of the seat would appear to be worn out.

The paint also looks to have a sort of haze going on. I think the top of the steering wheel may be worn down also. Not sure.

Plus the yellow on the top of the air cleaner, as well as the crumbs and what not in the mirror switch.

Oh whoppidy-fricken-do that's why I always keep a few business cards in the car. They are perfect for cleaning around little nooks like that.

I noticed some water stains/marks in the paint. The picture of the trunk, if you look closely it appears that there may have been some rust at the base of rear window, drivers side. If not rust there's something funky going on there.

I saw that too, maybe they just got lazy when cleaning it

Rightly so. All it needs now is a factory cd changer and a good set of Euro's and it would be almost perfect (I'd still prefer to have the cream interior but this is a rare example of a black interior that is in good shape.

I don't know where iwrock is coming from on this. My 126,000 mile 500SL has more wear in the driver's seat than that, and it was driven by a 100 pound little old lady for nearly 20 years of its life.

Will this be a blind ebay purchase? Always a crap shoot, if so. Its very hard to hide imperfections with black paint, and this one looks pretty nice overall.

Perhaps someone in the area could take a look at it for you?

No I would never buy a car without seeing it with my own eyes.
To the point though...I can't buy it right now, have that little lawsuit thing to get through before I can seriously considering doing anything else in life right now.

Its very rare for a 560SEC to be sold anywhere so I just have to be patient until one goes up for sale around here....and is in good condition...and preferably a 91 model.

This one was just a standout from all the others that I've seen up for sale lately....

That looks like a nice car at a good price. It even has the cosmoline left on some parts of the engine.

I don't know what Justin's seeing on the seat, other than the bolster having a little rub mark from getting in and out that all these cars seem to get I don't see any problems.

You should be able to tell if the mileage is legit pretty quick by looking at the car.

eval

Lifetime WI. car could mean a lot of rust even if not driven in snow in winter.

Desirable black/black leather combination and last model year. Appears not to have the undesirable '91-only ASR option. Appears to be unmodified stock with original 1991 Becker stereo cassette and unfortunate US spec headlights and headlight wipers/washers. Appears to have books but not any records. May be the original 040 black paint and wheels. No cracks on burlwood.

Wear, including that on driver seat bolster is consistent with 82k car.

New buyer would need to change out timing chain, tensioner and guide rails due to age issues, especially guide rails probably have spidering and hairline cracks and will be brown and about to crumble.

Needs to be checked for water leaks into windows (especially rear window into trunk), operation of seat belt extenders and sunroof, aircon blows cold, vacuum locks operate well, no high idle issues, trans shifts firm and correctly, power seats and windows all operate properly, motor mounts good, no front suspension issues, or SLS problems.

Needs complete PPI and copy of dealer VMI .

Russian site (not always accurate) confirms US spec standard optioned car.

*Knock on wood* Guess I should consider myself lucky to be hitting the 1/4 million mark and have so few problems, hopefully I can hit 350,000 before the rear window seal starts to leak or I start having vacuum problems. If I was to buy this car I would defiantly go into it knowing that the 5.6 engines need "refreshing" every 100,000 or so miles. (I've done some homework )

Jim B. is the man on 560SEC's! IIRC he wrote that buyer's guide?
