School shooting in Germany...

Very tragic, such a waste of life.

http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,,4091281,00.html

"Germany has strict gun control laws. Yet police say the gunman had used a nine millimeter pistol registered to his father, a member of a gun club who has a collection of 15 guns at home."

Hmm gun control works it seems.

The problem is that there shouldn't even be any gun clubs. If no one has a gun, then there would be no problem.

Son of a gun club member.....see, people with guns kill people. That is why no one should have them.

That doesn't make sense. If there was "absolute" gun control he wouldn't have had one in the first place.

He clearly wasn't mentally stable.

Or do like the Swiss do...everyone has a gun and everyone else knows it. So no one screws around.

Now there’s a line that could have (and should have) been left off your post.

Well, people should be able to own "old collector guns" I suppose....but there should be 0 ammo produced for them.

Seriously....a gun is a tool for killing. Whats so great about them. No one needs a gun. If no one had one, we'd all be better off.

Like I've said before, guns are for wimps, if you want to fight or hurt someone, do it with your fists, a blunt object, or knife/sword. Be a man! Standing 20 feet away and clicking a trigger is weak!

Guns simply allow people to make a hasty and very bad decision 99.9% of the time. People that argue at a bar and then shoot at each other, not acceptable. If they want to take out their frustrations...they should fight it out. Both will likely live....and then be in trouble for it.

On the morbid side you could say that guns help weed out the lower parts of what society has to offer, but the problem is that too many good/innocent people are taken along the way.

Fine. When you get the bad guys to come one on one and a referee to halt illegal moves, fair enough. Till then, bringing a gun to a knifefight or where you have multiple opponents or you just want to end it quick seems to work well.

gun's don't kill people.. people kill people.. a gun is mearly a tool to do the deed. If I wanted to I could walk up to a person and shove a sharpened pencil deep into their abdomen... I guess we should ban pencils. What else do I have on my desk that can kill.. my laptop.I could seriously beat the living **** out of someone with it, hell give me a mac pro with the aluminum body, that will do damage.

hmm a ti-84... that can hurt
a glass, break the top off and slice and dice.

tape measure..oohhh you do not want to know what I can do with that.

oh and maybe this mac keyboard can beat someone senseless. I also have a packing tape gun that can kill...

I can go on and on.. A gun is a tool that does work. A gun can save lives, it can provide food , protection. It can also take a life like anything anyone lays their hands on

in the right hands anything is a deadly weapon!

in todays world we do not have people that understand the rules of fighting...

Having been to high school no one fights like they used to in the "good ole days" fisticuffs, forget it. knock em down, kick them when they are down, etc.. no one respects the rules of fighting.

If my life was threatened what would I do? I would draw my weapon and fire. It is a lot safer than getting into close perimieter of the dangerous person and a lot smarter..What if(a stupid term that is totally useless and brings about soo many things) the person had a knife.. get close and you're dead.

as soon as I turn 21, the day of, I will be filling out the forms for my 9mm and classes for concealed carry.

Are you involved in these situations regularly?

Twice in my life, a gun came in handy when the odds were against me. That is 2 times 2 many.

When a person is in such a situation....I'd have to say they probably got themselves there somehow.....

I tend to avoid that.

Was walking up the road to the GF's house. Car stopped in front of me. No houses for a bit, just woods. Too far to run back. 3 guys with knives. Avoid that.

Was in Chicago when the friends wife HAD to go to the bathroom. While she was in, someone came up to the minivan, started talking and put a knife to the friend's throat. Can't leave without his wife and it was dark. Avoid that.

Walking to your car in an upscale mall parking lot. Avoid that.

This list could go on with day to day activities forever.

This was a tragedy that could have been reduced by having trained teachers with a gun in their desks. Just like the Virginia Tech massacre the gunman could have been put down before he killed all these kids.

The scariest thing in the article was this -- did anybody else pick up on it?
"
In addition to finding the motive of the killer, many in Germany are wondering how these types of attacks can be prevented in the future.

Wilhelm Heitmeyer, a sociologist who specializes in school violence, told Deutsche Welle that the best people to identify a potential attacker are fellow students.

"We see that a lot of the perpetrators are very isolated and they speak out about violent acts," he says, "And it's the peers, and not the teachers, who are going to notice this the most." "

How many of you were loners in High School? How many were picked on by the "in crowd" Bet it is 90% of you. Now think how easy it would be for somebody to single you out as a POTENTIAL KILLER. Where would you end up in a mental hospital? Or how about a "Happy Camp" where you can be reeducated into being more socially acceptable. I can see them rounding up all the kids with purple hair, dark clothes,or just not enough school spirit.

Why stop there? Lets go for all potential criminals -- Aklim you are a potential killer -- go to camp, PawoSD -- you are a potential burglar -- go to camp, Hattie -- go to camp for improper thoughts about guns -- Me, I will be sent as a potential embezzler -- it does not matter what the potential charge is -- we can all be sent away...
