More Stupidity From The New Government
"President Barack Obama's intelligence chief confirmed Thursday that some Guantanamo inmates may be released on US soil and receive assistance to return to society.
"If we are to release them in the United States, we need some sort of assistance for them to start a new life," said National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair at his first press conference. "You can't just put them on the street," he added. "All that is work in progress." If you were falsely arrested, I suppose that you would want to be deported to Siberia.

Pelosi can open a halfway house for them in San Francisco. Maybe Oprah can do the same in Chicago.

Two wrongs don't make a right, and just because (assuming) they were wrongly imprisoned, does not entitle them to bypass immigration.
Send them back where we got them, and give what assistance they need there, not here. |

So let me get this straight - after wrongly arresting them and wrongly imprisoning them for years without trial, the proper thing to do is to send them back to their own countries where they will be tortured and killed? That's what I like about you Republicans, it's all about the humanity.

^^^ And the reason you feel they would be tortured and killed is???

They should be sent back to wherever they came from.
I don't think they pose a threat if they WERE to be released here, since none of us know whether they actually are "terrorists" or not, (although, I'm sure after being in Gitmo, anyone who wasn't is probably pissed off enough by now to become one) But, it still wouldn't make sense to allow them to live here.

I can't believe you would be that ignorant of how the world works, tell you what, you get the ticket to Jordan. You and the other guy, compare notes and let us know.

I think the President has that one covered, or at least he is trying. This is from the article linked in the OP:

I think the larger issue here is that if I was wrongly imprisoned and tortured for years on end if I wasn't a terrorist before I sure as H@ll would be now! I think if we let these people go back their stories would only create more real terrorists...it could be a story to recruit with...."Hey look at why this country is evil" kind of thing.

I love the headline for the article linked in the OP: "Terror inmates may be released in US: intel chief"
So now people that we wrongfully imprisoned, who have no known connection to terrorism, are "Terror inmates." That is a sick view of the facts, IMHO. Common decency and a desire to reduce the crop of potential future terrorists both say that we should treat these prisoners right. |

Bashir Asad would probably pin a medal on you and give you a nice villa in Lebanon...

There are provisions for granting refuee visas, but they are pretty hard to get. I cannot see granting these Gitmo inmates a refugee visa. IF they are found to be innocent - they can apply like anybody else. Even if we did, they would probably WANT to be repatriated back to their families.
