Bob Perry, Swift Boater funder, shyster home builder, rip off artist

In a nutshell, couple buys house from Perry Homes for about a $quarter million in 1996. Soils turned out to be a problem, foundation was shifting, damage occurring in house. It was determined that the house needed to be lifted up, concrete piers drilled deep enough to find stability, foundation redone, house repaired.

Perry stonewalls, arbitration awards $800K to buyers, Perry appeals to the Texas Supreme Court, a body who's elections he had contributed to (all legal in Texas). Whatayaknow, the Supremes of Texas throw the ruling out, saving Perry, reported to be worth around $600 million, from having to make good on the faulty house he built. Still in litigation, let's hope the buyers die before they get any satisfaction.

Perry was allegedly the sole backer of the Swift Boaters in '04, donating some $4.5 million to them.

SWIFT BOATERS!! Hoo-hoo-hoo (seal whoopin')

I'm sorry , was there anything illegal, or untrue about the swift-boaters? Or was it merely inconvenient?

This scoundrel should be forced to fix the house, regardless of the original cost--He should have been aware of the poor soils. Normal, due diligence requires builders to know the geotechnical conditions.
Soils and foundations is my profession. It amazes me how many people still try to skimp on this part of their projects.

Illegal or untrue? Not illegal, and in their minds true. Whether or not their accusations against Kerry were fully accurate is difficult to know. Major ax grinding on both sides.

Of more importance to me is that the Swift Boaters are incapable of considering that the entire war may have been one big, avoidable tragedy, or that those who spoke up about our errors there behaved patriotically.

This story does shed some light on Perry's character, IMO.

Oh, but because Soros walks and breathes, Perry is off the hook?

Just seemed a bit off that a guy who could devote $4.5 million to a private political campaign would go to such lengths to stiff a customer on a $250 K house. And with a reported $600 million fortune.

Struck me as news. Take it how you want.

Has it occurred to you that others look at individuals like Rahm Emmanuel with just as much disdain for equally legitimate reason? And yet they see certain individuals dismiss the transgressions of the Emmanule's, Frank's, Dodd's, Kennedy's with nothing more than a casual interest, while complaining of the "obsessively self righteous" swift boaters. It really is a pot calling the kettle black thing kind of thing. And then obsessing about it almost five years after the election...what do you hope to gain? What are your goals. Do you think that somehow your "educating" us to the evils of swift boaters???

I have no illusions about educating you. Emmanuel is someone I know little about, not sure I like him too much. I was never keen on Dodd, I knew the guy didn't have a prayer in the Pres. race - there's something weird about him.

Voters pick up on weird personality ticks -- they vote for the guy they like, 9 times out of 10 (liberal baiters take note: this is an approximate estimate).

There is a virulent strain of hostile self-righteousness among conservative hawks that little else in the political world compares to.

I mean look at the Michelle Bachman wingnut from Minnesota. She's all but fomenting armed rebellion on the radio. AKA insurrection.

As much as lib-tards hated Bush I don't recall that line getting any play back then.

ps: show me one thing Emmanuel has done that's as petty and punk as this Perry ass-hat is pulling in this story.

uh, perry is (allegedly) a tort reform guy who supports arbitration in lieu of lawsuits...except, of course, when it works against him. (seems to be a hypocrite, if you read the story at the bottm link.)

(for the record, i think rahm immanuel is a dirty weasel. really. and his pride, arrogance, hubris etc. will eventually lead to his downfall. his proximity to the president is frightening and his continued influence and presence makes me doubt obama more every day. )

The guy (Perry) deserves a medal for pettiness. And this business of campaign contributions to State Supreme Court justices, jeez louise.

Good argument right there for not electing judges -- appointments only.

Dunno about Rahm and O. Maybe O wanted a guy who would run a tight ship.

Read the article from the San Antonio rag! Half of the justices he donated to voted against him. I'm guessing this whole mess could have been settled years ago for a fraction of what they were suing for. $800,000 on a $250,000 home. BTW where do these people live? Still in that home?
