Anyone visited Trinity Site?

Twice a year it's open to the public. It's open this coming Saturday and I'm thinking about going down. Anyone else been there? What did you think?

Visit what?

Nope. Though it's something I've contemplated doing myself. I'd be interested to hear your comments on it if you do go.

Are you talking about the site where the first nuclear bomb was detonated?

Fulcrum525 03-31-2009 11:41 AM

I would think that its nothing more then a shallow depression in the ground...or did they decide to build a museum on the spot?

Yes.

Dee8go 03-31-2009 11:47 AM

Isn't the ground there still radioactive?

cscmc1 03-31-2009 11:48 AM

No, but I have seen some piece of "Trinity Glass." I'd love to visit the site.

kerry 03-31-2009 11:49 AM

It is, but not at very high levels.

Sounds interesting. I wonder if camera film gets cloudy while on site.

The Trinity Glass is amazing stuff

What is that, just melted sand from the site?

Please take some pictures while you're there so we can see what it looks like. That sounds pretty interesting.

Watch out for the giant ants.

Gasbuggy

Kerry, make it an atomic tour and hit some of the Plowshare sites in NM and CO.

Stand above ground zero at the Gasbuggy site. It's over near Farmington.

The Rulison site has a buffer zone around it...can't get too close there.

And, the Rio Blanco site is near Rifle. Supposedly accessible.

kerry 03-31-2009 05:10 PM

I've been around Rio Blanco before. I didn't realize that site was there. Don't know if I can hit those other sites or not. It's the last weekend of my spring break but my wife and daughter had theirs last week so I can't leave for Trinity until Friday night. It'll be a long drive on Friday night just to be able to get into Trinity on Saturday.
