Thumbs up Conficker worm "eye chart" test

Here's a simple easy way to test if your computer is infected with the Conficker B or C worm.

One of the first things that the worm does when it infects your computer is to prevent access to certain websites like antivirus websites. All this test does is see if your PC is somehow blocked from accessing 6 key websites.

Click this link to test your PC:

(Currently, this website is getting a LOT of hits so don't be surprised if it is slow.)

Here's more info about the Conficker Working Group. All of the major antivirus companies are members of the group and also companies like Microsoft, Cisco and AOL.

I believe everyone was way too paranoid about this. All reports seem to say nothing happened. I didn't see anything on my network.....no signs of any issues.

This particularly nasty worm keeps calling home to get new code. If I were the author, the news reports over the past week would have caused me to issue an update, delaying any pending 1 April action.

These worms are not released just for grins. The developers hope to make money with them. The usual means are sending spam (very easy) or attempting to extort money from web-connected companies (harder).
