Indeed I do. Most of the religions that ban homosexuality are patriarchal. The horror with which they view homosexuality is rooted in the fact that someone in a gay relationship is acting like a woman, and what could be worse? It suggests that there is no difference between men and women and if there is no difference between men and women then what justifies the power of men?

Prior to the invention of reliable birth control, there were always going to be enough children to keep the religion expanding, so the 'need more kids' argument doesn't go too far.

in addition many religions want people to "Go forth and multiply" thus ensuring additions to the religion and that biologically can't be done with two men or two women between themselves.

As a liberal atheist NY'er, I'll stick my .02 generalities in about the midwest. (Gosh, anonymity is a wonderful thing!)

In the late '80s and early '90s I traveled to Iowa on business fairly often. In the early to mid '90s I lived in Southern Indiana for a couple of years. I found the Iowans, while generally politically conservative, to be extremely open-minded and accepting people. If you weren't harming anyone, they could give a rat's ass what you did. They seemed interested in learning about people different from themselves.

Southern Indiana was a very different story.

One makes money if things go well and the other could be painful.

Sounds like the voice of experience!!

I always thought the Catholic religion was against male homosexuality because the preachers didn't want any competition
