Lightbulb Need Inspiration: Medical Device

For my medical products packaging class I have to come up with a medical device, and then develop & assess a packaging and distribution system, for it. The Main focus of the course is the packaging and distribution system, but I want to be different and stray from everyone else's pills/surgical tools/standard medical stuff.

It can be anything so long as it's kind of medically relevant, and requires a sterile environment. The more complicated/cool-looking the better!

Size is limited to a regular pallet (48"x40"). I like the spinal implant though....

Constituent remote control device (Of Elected Officials)

'Somewhere along the lines of an anally implanted "Cattle Prod".'Trigger of which
is internet based and each constituent is issued a "Super Secret Code-number"
to be able to go onto a site and express displeasure with Official's actions via
the web.
Sort of a "Pavlov" device for the voter to train the elected Official with.

The trick is does it require a sterile environment, which most instruments don't come sterile if sterile is what they are looking for there is also a classification of "clean" which I think is a more accurate description for your project instruments are sterilized at the facility in most cases.

Medical Implant

As a paramedic I have responded to many diabetic emergencies. Some time ago I had a flash (and never repeated) of inspiration regarding development of a device to eliminate many of the issues insulin-dependent diabetics now have. I suggested this to a friend who has a small company that produces low-quantity widgets. His attorney told him that liability was too hard to handle. Anyway, here it is.

Insulin dependent diabetics rely on a glucometer to determine thier need for dosage. Some have an implanted insulin reservoir and "pump" that is operated by manually pressing a subcutaneous trigger. It occurred to me that one could implant the chip used in the glucometer and interface it with the pump to offer continuous monitoring of blood sugar levels and automatic insulin dosing as required. This could allow an insulin-dependent diabetic to live a virtually normal existence without the need to sample his own blood, analyze it with a hand-held glucometer and dose himself. All that would be required would be a periodic (say once every two years) refill of the reservoir and a battery change.

Hope this is helpful. If it develops into something real I would be very pleased.

It makes perfect sense. I'm surprised no one has put such a device on the market. The trial and approval process is very gruelling, time-consuming, and certainly very expensive for medical products, but it still seems likely to have such a wide market you would think one of the big pharmas would produce it.
