Netspeak is infiltrating our world

Yesterday I went looking at a phone for my wife. I asked about a phone, the guy picked it up and went "OMG." Yes, he actually said Oh-em-gee.

Medmech 04-05-2009 11:58 AM

lol

TheDon 04-05-2009 12:07 PM

perhaps he was gay?
is netspeak anything like newspeak?

raymr 04-05-2009 12:26 PM

Thats dumb. You don't even save any syllables by saying that. Actually some acronyms are longer to say than the word(s) they replace, like VW.

iwrock 04-05-2009 12:29 PM

Haha....

At least you knew what he was talking about. My dad would have looked at him like he was nuts... O_o

The classic of course is that saying World Wide Web has less syllables than saying WWW.

I was under the impression that it was text speak, rather than net speak.

idk 4 sure

Hatterasguy 04-05-2009 04:22 PM

Most likely he was gay or a metro.

LaRondo 04-05-2009 05:16 PM

This is not surprising at all. In fact, it appears as if a broad mentality is exactly located as described.

Just as the word "like", a filler syllable for all the words missing in the vocabulary of an average person, particularly young peeps and late teenagers.

For all you folks not living in Southern Cali, you oughta come over here and take a looksie. That's how it goes all day long: "OMG, it's like ... OMG!"

LaughingGravy 04-05-2009 05:25 PM

Kamil works in a phone store?

cmac2012 04-06-2009 03:23 AM

WTF?! Actually, I sorta like using doub'a'u tee eff instead of saying it the old fashioned way. I mean, I don't do it often but a lot of people have an aversion to F bombs so using WTF is a way to minimize bad feedback.
