Thumbs down Police: 3 officers killed in Pa. shooting

April 4: A man opened fire on police responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday, killing three officers and injuring two before he could be arrested. NBC’s Jeff

updated 8:00 p.m. ET April 4, 2009
PITTSBURGH - A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and “lying in wait” opened fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday, killing three of them and turning a quiet Pittsburgh street into a battlefield, police said.

Police Chief Nate Harper said the motive for the shooting isn’t clear, but friends said the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

Richard Poplawski, 23, met officers at the doorway and shot two of them in the head immediately, Harper said. An officer who tried to help the two also was killed.

According to one report his mother had called 911 after he been attacking her over his dog pissing in the house and her threat to throw him out. Obviously a whackjob loser.

Yeah, that was MY thought, too. Well, you don't generally get much rational thinking from irrational minds . . . .

This is very upsetting, more and more we are losing officers to these kinds of things. Obviously, this guy was psycho.

Yes, but unlike the Oakland, CA police killings, the Pittsburgh killings were covered virtually non-stop on cable news over the weekend.

I hope we're once again in agreement that the killing of multiple police officers is indeed a big deal in America. Some posting here on the Holder thread had tried to argue that such things weren't really news anymore.

I wonder how much it would be talked about without that little tidbit.

I've heard very little about that, in fact, the first I'd heard of it was on one of the MSNBC shows last night.

Some righties are going way over the line in the hyperbole dept. on the "Obama gonna take your guns" tirades. Republicans in general are setting new records in obstructionism, going way past similar demo behaviors that they had railed against just a few years back. GOP: Grand Obstructionist Party.

And many of our dear friends will in no way consider the possible effect, probable more like it, of the gradual coarsening of the public mind owing to having young men indulge in hours of high quality graphics portraying the hands on wasting of pesky police officers, gettin' in the way of their freedom.

Grand Theft Auto rocks, dude!

Please, video games are not the problem. The problem is too many psychos and easy access to guns. I'd like to see the federal assault weapon ban reinstated. IMO these weapons have no place in a civilian's hands for whatever purpose.
