Cause of tire failure?

I've got a set of Pacemark Snowtrakker tires on my wifes 116 1979 SD. Neighbor stopped by last night and said it had a flat tire. Cause appears to have been a separation in the inner sidewall resulting in a bulge which eventually migrated to the bead where it blew out while the car was sitting. Lucky she wasn't driving when it happened.
Any speculation of the cause of this kind of failure. There's about 80% tread left on the tire. Found a couple of reports on the internet of other relatively new Pacemark Snotrakkers blowing out.

I had a similar situation with a Hankook (sp?). it was 2/3 the price of a goodyear but in the end I had to eat the Hankook and buy a Goodyear too. I wont buy a Chinese tire ever again.

Have you checked the date on the tire? There have been reports of tire stores selling old tires as new (new old stock). This site explains the code -

http://www.aa1car.com/library/tire_expire.htm

Even if you just bought them, they could be many years old.

I'm also with LutzTD, I never buy chinese tires. Seen too many failures.

A couple things might be:

Hitting a pot hole with a particularly nasty sharp edge.

Or,

Running at higher speeds with low tire pressure, overheating the tread causing separation.

Look at the date, even though its sold as new it might be 10 years old!

I just learned this, now I check the date before buying.

I tried following the trail, Remington tires was part of Remington Tire Distributor which was part of Grays Tire Distributors which was purchased by American Tire Distributors in 2008. My guess from that is they do not make the 20 brands of tires they "distribute" so you probably got a Chinese tire. It is common for them to buy an old brand name and then market their stuff under a recognizable name

What happened to Paul's reply? That seemed like a good explanation since I think that tire did run low for a while about a year ago.

a few things:

poor construction
inflation issues and not inflating tires adjusted with outside temperature.

Are the tires the proper load rating for the vehicle? I had both rears on my 6.9 separate a belt at speed (not at the same time) on some cheap Yokohomas that were not the proper load rating.

I also found out the hard way, when you have a 4000 pound car riding on 14 inch tires, cheap tires are not tolerated very well. Since I switched to Michelins, I have had zero tire problems. The only car in my fleet having tire problems is the Prius, which came with Goodyear Maypops.
